We loved our stay at the Fairview. Annie, Eric and Anson are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are big and clean. The garden is beautiful. We had very nice breakfasts for a very good price. A big plus is the location as it is close to Kuching Waterfront, the Museums and the main shopping area.
It felt like home and we hope to go back one day as Kuching is a charming city. We'll recommend the Fairview to anybody going to Kuching.

Good location, It's about 10min. walk to Kuching Waterfront and 5 min. to the Shopping mall Plaza Merdeka where on the top floor you can find all kinds of food to eat out.
Rooms are basic but spacious. They might smell a bit but that's normal because it's in an old house ! Bathroom has hot water. Wifi available. You can stay in the main house or outside in the garden. I preferred the room in the garden because then you have your own terrace and you can sit outside ! The family does everything themselves, they can pick you up from the airport and bring you. You can have your trips organised by them but there are also plenty of tour agencies in town, sometimes it's cheaper to go with the agency depends how many participants there are, you have to shop around. Absolute MUST DO when you're in Kuching : Semengoh Wildlife Sanctuary and Bako National Park. Kuching Wetlands boat trip is too expensive for what you get, and the chance of seeing wildlife is small, I don't recommend. Sure, there are nicer and more modern guesthouses in Kuching but then you'll pay more. At Fairview the price is low and you get what you pay for. I ended up staying 6 days, but that's also because I got sick and couldn't move too much !

Room Tip: Top floor in the house or outside in the garden

Stayed at the Fairview for 5 nights . Annie, the owner is very helpful and friendly. For a reasonable fee she will pick you up from the airport as well. The rooms are big, cheap and very clean. I had a great stay.
It is a short walk to the waterfront and opposit the guesthouse is a small park and 2 museums .

Stayed at The Fairview for 6 days in June.
Had a wonderful stay. the owners were really nice, planned our trips perfectly.
Went to visit Bako, Gnung Gading, Semengoh, Bidayuh Longhouse, Cultural Village. Our guides were wonderful people as well, showed us so many places etc
Kuching is a really nice town.
Rooms are spacious and clean, basic but comfortable.
A great value for money.
With breakfast, drinks, laundry if needed and Wifi as well
Would recommend it 100% !!!

We stayed 2 nights in a huge bedroom on the first floor with an attached bathroom and wish we could have stayed longer as we were made most welcome. Annie picked us up from the airport and suggested we visit the Sunday market nearby which we did, I loved seeing all the fresh produce for sale. The next day she arranged a trip to the Cultural Village for us which was really interesting. The breakfasts were huge and it was great to be able to chill out in the lounge, they were even happy for my son to watch the football match, a real home from home in a lovely location.

We used the Fairview as our base whilst in and around Kuching and enjoyed staying there very much. It's an old (1920's?) big house with an extra annexe with a couple of rooms (we stayed in the family room there). The owner Annie is very helpful - we were happy to be picked up at the airport as we arrived there in the evening after 10 hours in the air and another 3 waiting at KL airport. The airport pick-up isn't free but we were glad of it. Annie will organise tours and transport if you want to - generally we did our own thing though. She also let us leave extra luggage there when we went off on overnight stays at Bako national park and also out at another homestay in the countryside. The rooms are clean but no-frills and everything is pretty efficient. It's within walking distance of the centre of town and also of the weekend market (Pasar Minggu). The breakfast is a good way to kick start the day and also meet up with other residents - the guy who looks after the kitchen and food is really nice. Have a look round his veggie garden!

I'd thoroughly recommend it as a relaxed environment to use as a base to explore the Kuching area from.
