I think this is the first time ever that I reluctant to leave a hotel...
The hotel has nice ambiance and very good services. I like to relaxing by the pool and the restaurant serves fantastic food.

Not far from Basaga is Jambu, a restaurant and bistro. A VERY GREAT place to hang out at night!

Basaga is a good place to stay. Kuching isn't. At least, if you're visiting during the wet season (jan/feb). Basaga was a old school, with nice, open rooms and a good atmosphere. It's a 20 minute walk to the city centre, and not a nice walk (unless you like the smell of cars and stray dogs). The staff couldn't advise us a lot of places, because they had never been there, quite weird. We wanted to visit Kubah National Park and Matang, but the staff didn't even know the name. Next to Basaga is a quite new complex, with a karaoke bar. It kept me up for 2 nights. I guess Basaga is a good stay after hiking the trails and parks in dry season and you're in a deep sleep, if not, try another one.

We booked 3 nights here to get us going in Kuching. We ended up staying for 7 nights!

The place is wonderful- laid out in a lovely set of white colonial-style buildings set around a lush green area incorporating the restaurant, bar and pool. The grounds and rooms are kept in immaculate condition by the staff. The rooms are simple but clean and very comfortable- we were originally given a room in the main house which we found a little noisy because of the nearby by road. The staff gave us an alternative room in the side building which was wonderful, with a lovely outdoor shower to boot!

We spent most evenings on the veranda outside Basaga’s colonial white main house, which sits rather splendidly over a shallow carp-inhabited pool, enjoying the reasonably priced food (both Western and local options, both tasty) and a drink. Many locals use this which gives it a lovely bustling hum without ever getting noisy.

The staff were helpful and friendly all round.

Only slight downfall was breakfast, which while being ok didn't quite live up to rest of the hotel's standards. The walk into the centre of Kuching is not far, less than 2 km, but not always easy with the frenetic traffic and lack of pedestrian crossings- taxis are cheap though.

My partner and I stayed at this lovely relaxing hotel from 6th December 2010. We were originally booked in for three nights and loved the hotel so much we extended our stay by another two nights. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful - nothing was too much trouble for them. The manager, Peter was brilliant. He came to my rescue when I had a problem with my bank. The rooms have been very tastefully decorated. I think it's a great idea having the shower outside in a private courtyard. The bar and restaurant were excellent value for money. The hotel is a 20 minute walk from the town centre, however it's very cheap to get there by taxis. Be warned avoid going into Kuching at rush hour as we waited over half an hour for a taxis to come to the hotel. Whilst in kuching you must visit the cat museum - even if you don't like cats! The waterfront is particularly lovely at night. If you get a chance book a few excursions through the hotel the tour guide (David) is extremely informative and he made the trips great fun. Can't recommend him highly enough.

Nice and clean b&b hotel with superior service and hospitality! Only 5min (Taxi) away from the river. The restaurant servs delicious local food and the staff were always friendly and helpfull. Further more they have been organizing tours for dolphin watching, snorkeling and hiking for us. Way better then all the big hotels at the river front! We can only recommend this nice hotel and will come back for sure!!

My wife and I stayed at Basaga for two nights while visiting relatives in Kuching. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was clean and cool, there was a well stocked bar and local and international food for breakfast and dinner. I didn't use the pool due to the weather but it and the surroundings were kept clean in spite of the large trees around. This is a hidden gem so keep it a secret!
