An interesting hotel converted from a former school and with a relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere and comfortable rooms. If you don't like modern high rise developments this is the place for you. The grounds are full of luxuriant plants giving the impression of a little oasis. The staff were always helpful, friendly and responsive to queries and requests.

We all stayed at Basaga 3 years ago when it was all new and was delightful. This time it has been very disappointing. It is starting to look worn already - the pool was always full of leaves, 3 days of cold showers and a damp wood smell in the rooms. The setting is still lovely and the beer ice cold but you can stay up the road at the Citadines with a far better pool for 40RM more.

Everything about Basaga was great - when inside the Basaga gates, you have no idea that you are in the middle of town. Would definitely stay there again if in Kuching! The staff on all levels were helpful and friendly.

This is a hard review to write as there were good and not so good parts of our stay at Basaga.
The good parts were the lovely gardens and setting around the pool, quiet location, the friendly staff, good breakfast, on site restaurant with tasty food.
The "not so good" was the room. We had a twin room beside the pool which lacked privacy with people walking past. It was large but dark, smelled musty, and was noisy from the movement of people in the room above. The bathroom had mould in it, the water was barely tepid and the towels were very thin.
The hotel is located away from town - there are 2 shuttles to town each day but you will prob need to get a taxi back [12MYR]. The Spring shopping centre is a 15 min walk away but there is no footpath. There are local food/eating places close by if you are adventurous and a tribal restaurant at the Sarawaf Pavilion across the road.
The "Guesthouse" style of accomodation provides a pleasant environment and opportunity to meet fellow travellers so that is an advantage of Basaga but the quality of the room was disappointing.

Room Tip: Ask for an upstairs room

This is a wonderful place to stay, clean cool rooms with pool access, a bar & good food, close to the city centre and other attractions within walking distance. Me & my husband had a lovely time here & if we ever came to Kuching again we would definitely stay here, it is really reasonably priced as well. Excellent value x

Room Tip: Ask for one with either an outdoor shower or on the 2nd floor :-)

Wonderful place, beautiful gardens and pool. Great service with a good restaurant on site that is also popular with the locals. I took several trips with Brandon. They were outstanding and included much local information. The lodge is not in the city but close enough to walk or use their mini bus which runs twice a day. I loved my stay and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Kuching.

Room Tip: Preferred the balcony rooms which give a good view of the gardens.
