“Excellent value for money with the friendliest staff”
Reviewed February 26, 2011

Having read previous reviews and as the Hilton was fully booked, I decided to try the Lime Tree and was mighty glad I did. EXCELLENT value for money, clean, safe, location good and the best staff ever. The free use of two hotel computers and internet was a BIG plus. All I will add is, maybe the hotel could cater a little more for western tourist's breakfast....currently very Chinese biased, but this is meant as a constructive point to help the hotel as the current breakfast is acceptable, but with a small effort it could be excellent for westerners

I am a frequent traveller to Kuching over 4 years and I used to stay in more expensive hotels in town, the Hilton and Pullman. I tried the Lime Tree and was very happy with the friendly service, the food is good, the rooms are clean and have everything you need. The free wifi is one of the fastest internet connections in Kuching. All the staff are well trained and friendly, Ms Serinah in the Reception is very friendly and helpful.

Overall, I like the hotel and will go back on my next trip

Stayed from Feb 8 to 11. First trip to Kuching. Chose this hotel because of the reviews on this board.
Was interested in the Suite Dream Package but since I was traveling alone, it had to be tailored. Ms Serinah worked with me over the details and took care of the reservation.
When I checked in, Ms Serinah was at the front desk to greet me. Throughout my stay, she was always there to make sure my appointments with tours, massage, transfer were kept.
Everybody I encountered with at the hotel; breakfast place, house keeping, front desk, drivers, were very friendly and more importantly helpful.
Serinah and Peter help booked tours and made suggestions when asked where to go for stuff with great details. They do take care of their guests personally.
The lady at the breakfast cafe was always so cheerful and helpful in the morning. The food is really good too; the laksa and the fried noodles especially.
Had the opportunity to meet Mr. Kho (the manager) too and he's very pleasant and friendly.
Peter suggested and extended my checkout because my flight was not leaving till 4.
My room/suite was big, so was the bathroom. Nicely appointed and clean. Can't think of anything I needed and was not already there.
Enjoyed Kuching more than I expected and would like to go back and when I do there is no reason to stay anywhere else.

The Lime Tree is a mere place to sleep at. Do not expect to be at a fancy place, but it has anything you could need.

The rooms are modern, bath is small, and, one of the best things, is that you have computers with free internet access. In addition: (i) you are invited to a lime juice at the roof top bar; (ii) breakfast is very good and included in the room rate; (iii) there is a free transfer service from/to the airport; and (iv) it takes only some minutes to be right downtown.

For anyone going to Kuching and who does not want to spend a whole lot of money, this is the place to go.

The location is good, it is right at the back lane of old town, there are a few bars nearby (about 5-10 mins walk). Rooms are very small (those with window), with slide door to the toilet (toilet is very small) which makes it looks cheap. There is no wardrobe, just small storage area and small desk. Definitely not suitable for family. There is a roof top bar that is quite nice. Breakfast is good though. In term of value, we paid RM180m which I think doesn't really worth it for this type of hotel. There are plenty of hotels within this price range that I think might be better.

Dear lilyfabuloso,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at our hotel. We are disappointed to learn we were not able to meet your expectations during your stay. Your feedback is much appreciated and we remain committed to ensure comfort and guest satisfaction, all at great value. For your kind information, the Deluxe room you had was booked under a walk-in rate inclusive of complimentary breakfast and wi-fi access, and it had a basic, minimalist design for the maximum occupancy of two. One may wish to know we have Family Suites which are more suitable for a family's stay of up to four. Other room types of different sizes, layouts and amenities are available to accomodate the different requirements of our guests. We are also glad you enjoyed our breakfast and rooftop lounge.

We hope we will have the opportunity to welcome you again; in the meantime, we wish you safe travels and a great year ahead!

Best regards,

Julie Tay - Resident Manager

We stayed at the Limetree Hotel in January 2011 based on the reviews here and weren't disappointed in our choice.

The best experience in this hotel is dealing with the staff. All were very friendly and you got the feeling they enjoyed their work (I guess due to it being a family business rather than a chain).

The location is not right in the centre of town, however Kuching is so small it does not matter as you can walk around easily. Anywhere else in the area you might go (the orangutan wildlife centre is 30 minutes drive and highly recommended) was easy to organise at the desk. The area immediately around the hotel has plenty of shops, restaurants and character. We found Kuching itself much more interesting than Kota Kinabalu, with some really great restaurants and coffee shops to discover.

The breakfast buffet was a great addition to our room price and offered a good selection -- the local laksa and desserts where fantastic. The rooftop bar was also excellent with really cheap tiger beers, great service and a nice view. We started off every night here and it was a shame to see not many other people around. Anyone who stays there should also look into booking the shuttle bus as it was cheaper than the local taxis.

Rooms are small and minimal, however seemed great for the price. The only complaint would be no hot water taps in the bathroom sink, which was annoying but no big deal.

We were pleased with our stay at The LimeTree Hotel. They've done a nice job of refurbishing it, the staff is friendly and responsive, the free breakfast is good (don't miss the Sarawak Laksa!), and everything was very clean. It's cozy and simple without many frills or amenities, but it's perfect if you're looking for a comfortable and affordable place to stay while touring Kuching city or as a hub for day trips in the area. We would definitely recommend it and return if we make another trip to Kuching.
