Recently returned to Lodge 121 and was pleased that nothing (besides an extension) had changed. The staff were still as helpful as ever, offering ideas as to where to eat or how best to get places. The rooms were very cleaned and obviously being maintained well. We brought our retired parents along and were uncertain as to how they would feel about staying at the lodge, rather than a hotel, but they absolutely loved it.

Henry the owner was great. We booked in for a tour to see the orangutans at Semmengoh Wildlife Park and he ended up being our host/tour guide for the morning. He even went out of his way to take us to have a traditional "Sarawak Laksa" breakfast!

We met some other lovely people during our breakfast sessions in the communal dining area. If you are in Kuching and don't want to spend a fortune, then this is the place to stay. It's not on the waterfront, but this was great for us as it meant a good night sleep.

Up the stairs and through the glass-door you will find smiling, relaxed friendliness from the helpful staff. You feel very welcome in an easy going atmosphere,
Very good prices. Clean and nice rooms, ours with with air.con. Good beds; we slept like logs. The place is very clean and tidy.
A kitchen with free coffe or tea, bread and jam. A big table where you sit around with with people from all over the world, solving the problems of this planet. You find you`re not in that hurry to get out to the sights, the bars or whatever. You help yourself to a drink form the fridge, - and,you pay next morning if the person in charge has left for the night. Free internet access, - and if the computer is occupied the staff is happy to offer you the one they`re working on. "No prob, I can continue after....". Also a TV-room where you sit on mats on the floor.
We tried four different places to stay in Kuching this Summer, also the five star ones, and Lodge 121 is absolutely our favourite.
We did our first trip to Borneo this summer. Next summer we`re going back for sure. We can`t wait. Kuching will be a natural starting point for us again, - and guess where we`re staying? Right; Lodge 121 for sure! We highly recommend the place
Also; staying close to the river is an advantage in Kuching. Lodge 121 is a 5 min. walk from the waterfront and close to "everything" Again, a very good option.

We can really recommend lodge 121. A very easy place to be and very tolerant of our comings and goings to national parks and longhouses. The only downside is that it is a few hundred yards further out of town than some of the hostels, although this is made up for by the calm and cool atmoshpere

This was actually a nice hostel with seemingly clean floors, friendly hosts, decent location near the waterfront and OK price. However, bed bugs ruined my stay at the hostel. The hosts provided me with another room to sleep with but it was too late, gigantic welts were forming on my skin.I wont be staying here again.
