Really good hostel with very helpful staff. Staff went well beyond expectations and were so helpful. Rooms were decent. It was free to leave our bags at the hostel for a night when we did the mountain climb which was a bonus. Breakfast was adequate and more than we got in most other hostel.
Staff definitely make this hostel 5 star.

We stayed at lavender lodge twice during our time in KK. The first time we booked for two nights in a private room with ensuite which was on the third floor. There wasnt a lift however it was fine going up the stairs for a bit of exercise! The room was clean although there was a bit of a musty smell and the bathroom was very small. We were not planning on spending much time in our room so it had everything we needed and it was in a great location! The staff were very friendly and helpful. We went somewhere else in Sabah for 4 nights and then booked again at Lavender lodge when we came back for another two nights.

Well, staying here was one of the best decisions I made while traveling around Borneo. I first stayed here on the way to do some hiking around Mt. Kinabalu and thought the place was an excellent home base to see KK by. Then, after a few weeks away, they were kind enough to take me back without any previous booking after I stumbled back to KK sick with what turned out to be malaria. They were even kind enough to work with the Chinese restaurant next door to get me broth and soup as a recuperated. I can't recommend them or thank them enough!

Room Tip: Try not to get one on the ground floor- too much foot traffic.

We only stayed in lavender lodge for one night but had a great experience. We left though because it was a bit above our budget (RM90 for our room as the RM75 ones were booked out), maybe more for the flashpackers instead of the low budget backpackers. But if you have the money it is definitely worth spending it here. The room was really clean and nice. The only thing was that our hot shower didn't work, only cold water. Apart from that everything was perfect.
Breakfast is toast with jam, juice/coffie or tea and water melon.

We stayed here for 1 night and it was a good stay with nice staff, good clean rooms, a bit of a walk up the stairs but we are not all lazy people. There is a breakfast included it is centrally located with good wifi. Everything you need really. I would recommend this place

We have been backpacking through Malaysia for the past three weeks and this place has been one of our favourites! For the price, it is so worth it.
We stayed for two nights following our Mount Kinabalu climb. One the first night, both of us were vomiting continuously and the staff were very kind and offered to phone a doctor and gave us advice on what to eat a breakfast etc.
Luckily by morning we were fine, and breakfast offerings of toast, oats and bananas (yay for fresh fruit!!!) went down a treat.
Room on the first floor spacious and cosy- shared bathroom no problem as it clearly gets cleaned well and the showers are again, roomy, and nice and warm and pretty powerful!
Beds really comfy, location great, wish we d stayed here on our arrival into KK instead of another hostel.
