“Nice option, dangerous road crossing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 20, 2012

Very reliable with all the western requirements. Spacious room. Breakfast was fine (eggs/omlettes on demand, some fruit, plenty of noodles & rice). The key issue is that you have to cross a main road of about 6 lanes (maybe more?) to get into the main part of the city - and there's no zebra crossing! I lived in Vietnam, so I'm comfortable crossing roads in developing nations - but the cars were moving at speed and it was all a bit dangerous. We only stayed 1 night but crossing that road became a mental obstacle to me to experience the sites of KK. For the price, you can find better options.

be careful as there are 2 Shangri-La hotels in Kinabalu. The Shangri-la resort which is located approx. 30 mins. outside and the one downtown for which I am writing this review which does not belong to THE hotelchain (we got this information at the hotel).

It is a 2* hotel located very central. you just have to cross a main road to reach the city centre. Even though crossing this road is very difficult as there is a roundabout circulation directly after the hotel, so the traffic never stops and most of the car drivers do not care about tourists standing on the street. So use caution!

Our room was very nice, good size and clean. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Breakfast was great.

Thank goodness we were only here for one night!

The rooms themselves were comfortable. But after a whole afternoon of travelling from Lahad Datu all I wanted was a nice hot shower....what I got was lukewarm! One of the coffee cups needed to be thrown out it just looked dirty and nasty.

They had a wonderful dessert menu in the room but absolutely nothing in the kitchen! Gone were our ideas of chocolate sundaes and ice-cream sandwiches. We ended up with just ice-cream. The food was ok but nothing special.

The staff were helpful, the room was clean and the beds were comfortable.

We stayed there on three separate nights as part of a tour package and liked it each time. Clean rooms and bathrooms (with reliable hot water), friendly service (even from the bell-hop who looked like he needed lots more sleep) and good food. Its also close to a decent local cafe (on a corner next to KFC). True, you could hear traffic in the morning on floor 9 at the front, but it wasn't loud enough to disturb us. The room we had at the back was quieter. We would stay there again.

Room Tip: Quieter rooms are on upper levels at the back

Stayed here as a part of a Borneo tour package. This was by far the worst place we stayed, thankfully it was only for a couple of nights. The hotel is located next to a busy road that you need to cross to get into town, this can be challenging at peak times.

The room decor is dated and they are not that clean. When I checked in a cigar but was floating in the toilet, the room smelt of stale smoke. Despite requesting a non smoking room, we were obviously on a smoking floor.

I would certainly not stay here again.

We stayed here after 3 superb nights in KL. We can't knock the cleanliness of the rooms, the size of the rooms or the location. The staff however are not overly friendly, the bar was never manned and had a very limited choice of drinks, canned beer and wine only. I think we may be being too picky, but it just had a cold clinical atmosphere. Some great sea food restaurants close by. 2 nights was enough here though.

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Lot of good restaurants were available nearby. Sunday market is also walkable. Good breakfast and swimming pool. Love to stay again
