Have just returned from a 2 night stay at Le Meridien, Kota Kinabalu. I would recommend Le Meridien to anyone wanting to stay in KK.
You could spend one day sitting watching all the comings and goingsfrom the bedroom window.
We found the food very good, the service delightful and all in all very good value.
We will certainly return there.

A wonderful 1 night stay after the hard trip up and down Mt Kinabalu. Coming back from many hours of rain, we checked in to a white, clean and perfect room on the 7th floor overlooking the harbour. Watching the sunset from the bed, we were fare away from the hardships of that morning when we 3am were heading up the cold mountin up to 4000m.

We checked in late (8PM) after our flight was delayed to find out our assigned room was not yet ready. We managed to get an upgrade to a suite since we insisted on a non-smoking room. The 1 bedroom suite was very spacious, although in need of a bit of maintenance/updating. The bedroom had a great view of the water and the location of the hotel was perfect, directly behind the market and next to the shopping area. Bathroom was very spacious. Front desk staff were very pleasant.

We stayed at the Le Meridien for five nights. We paid $100/night and felt it was money well spent. The hotel is located on the main coast road in the very centre of the town, close to the entertainment boulevard, the shops and restaurants. The room/bathroom was well appointed, spacious, modern and spotless. We had a FREE broadband connection and DVD player as well, great for the little fellow. The pool and other leisure facilities were excellent and the hotel has a bar, with a great happy hour and live music. When we arrived, I thought we were going to have a problem with the check in, as OPODO had not sent confirmation of our pre paid reservation. I was impressed by the reassurances I was given at reception. They then phoned Opodo directly to confirm the details of the booking and had us in the room with in twenty minutes.
We didn't use the restaurants but the buffet breakfast was extensive, the food is geared more to Asians, no pork of course.

My husband and I chose to stay in the Deluxe Seaview room of Le Meridien for one night in early November, as the perfect base before going on an island hopping trip the following day and thereafter transferring to Shangrila Rasa Ria. The location of the hotel is EXCELLENT, right smack dab in the middle of everything. We walked to the nearby malls, eateries, markets, waterfront and even the jetty for the boat trips to the TARP islands. As many reviewers have already mentioned, Le Meridien's strongest suit is its central location.

The room itself was great, with an awesome view of the sea and the market below. While the room did not have WIFI, it did have free internet connection which guests with laptops could use. I specifically requested for a non-smoking room on a high floor and these requests were all given to us without a hitch. It was my husband's birthday and the hotel staff were nice enough to give him a complimentary birthday cake, which was really delicious!

We availed of the prepaid package on the hotel's website which offered the best rates. The package did not include the buffet breakfast, but upon check-in, we were offered discounted breakfast vouchers which we happily purchased. The breakfast spread was more than adequate and the individual Bodum coffee presses given to each table were a nice touch.

We checked out of Le Meridien early to go island hopping, so we requested the concierge to keep our luggage until we returned in the afternoon. We appreciated the fact that when we returned, we were not only allowed to use the fitness center locker rooms on the 2nd floor to shower and freshen up, the concierge even helped us make arrangements for the shuttle service to Shangrila Rasa Ria.

The only reason why I did not give this hotel a perfect rating is that in my honest opinion, I felt that the hotel, like most big hotel chains, lacked soul. Service was efficient albeit quite impersonal, which was a far cry from our experience at the Shangrila Rasa Ria. All in all, we had a very pleasant stay in Le Meridien and we would not hesitate to recommend this good value hotel to others.

When I first considered this hotel for our final 2 nights in Borneo, I was put off by the price - around £90 per night so had decided it was too expensive as we already had several 'splurges' built into our trip. By the time we were finalising arrangements we were surprised when divedownbelow offered it as an option for about £65 per night which we decided was worth the price. I did notice though that starwood hotels were running deals nearer the time and the price all in was about £45-£50. So if you are booking last minute or when there are offers on, you can get great deals!

We stayed here for 2 nights after climbing Mt Kinabalu. It was lovely to come to such a clean, luxurious hotel when you are tired, sweaty and dirty!! Our room (614) was surprisingly spacious for a supposedly standard superior room and really well equipped with iron, hairdryer, tea&coffee making facilities. the barthroom was lovely - marble flooring etc, big separate shower and bath. So nice for relaxing in after the climb!! There is even a clothes line in the bathroom! We even had a partial sea view which was a nice surprise.

The main reason we selected this is that we knew after the climb, we would need somewhere nice, comfortable and convenient to chill out in with minimal walking required! This was perfect - right by the waterfront so convenient for the night markets, waterfront cafes, main shopping malls etc.

It was also lovely having the swimming pool there and I made good use of it. As others have mentioned, there aren't a huge number of sunloungers although there were just about enough when we visited. They could definitely do with a few more though... My boyfriend had planned to try out the sauna but unfortunately we ran out of time!

The breakfasts are exceptional. Good strong coffee, fresh juices and a huge range of foods - traditional european cooked, asian, pastries including croissants, pain au chococat, fruits, cakes, cheese and some very interesting little 'shot' glasses with pureed fruits etc. I honestly have never seen such a wide variety of foods at breakfast anywhere!

I can't really add anything new from what previous posters have said but I did want to review the hotel as it deserves to be well-placed in the top ten in KK.
