The Le Meridian is located on the waterfront, facing the night market right in downtown Kota Kinabalu. It is an outstanding hotel and highly recommended. You are bound to enjoy the well appointed lobby, the beautiful restaurants, the wonderful outdoors swimming pool and the fitness center, including a jacuzzi and a great sauna room. To top it off, the manager organized a free cocktail reception at sunset near the pool when I was there. Sipping a drink looking at the attractive view of the sun setting over the bay was miraculous.

The room was on par with the expected Le Meridian standard. Spacious, well appointed, modern and comfortable. Service was immaculate, and the few requests that I made were taken care of promptly and efficiently. If possible go for a room overlooking the bay for an exquisite view of the sunset, though the rooms facing the mountains are just as comfortable.

Across from the hotel there is a large modern shopping mall called Center 1. There is shuttle bus which leaves almost hourly from the airport to downtown Kota Kinabalu, and stops right by the main door of the mall.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the bay for a spectacular sunset

My family and I are frequent travellers and we often browse comments from tripadvisor for guidelines. This is the time which drive me to write a comment while I am sitting in the room waiting the aircon system to be fixed.

We are very disappointed with the hotel, no matter is the hardware or staff...

The rooms are very tired, defects are everywhere! From the broken shower hose (metal sticks out), broken carpet with hidden wiring, broken drawer, fridge is faulty, aircon stays under 21c even you set as 34c...etc And more, insects like flea in toilet, although this type of flea doesn't bite but still get annoying...

The staff apparently act friendly and helpful but not really sincere to help at all. You will be acknowledged but wait to get flames on your head...

Definitely not worth for a 5* !

Tips: if you still want to take a chance, seaview room will be better since it is longggger.

You will hear prayers at 4am if your room is facing north east as there's a mosque nearby.

Hello jj128128,

I understand that you felt the need to share with others your personal experiences and feedback during your stay. I do know that our team extended every opportunity to you and your family to relocate to another room even a suite, though we could not actually help to find a room that you felt comfortable in.

I am sorry for this, though I do accept that in some cases there are personal preferences and a poor start prior to your arrival that may of impacted on your stay. As I mentioned to you when I met you if you could please forward me an email to fiona.hagan@lemeridien.com with the correspondence you had prior to your arrival so I can help to followup.

At the same time I would like to correspond with you directly, not over this forum.

Sincerely yours,
Fiona Hagan

Hotel has pretensions to be 5 star. Although the lobby is quite glitzy, the room was not. It reminded me of a tired out Holiday Inn in USA, actually.
There were 4 significant service failures we experienced, and after a degree of prompting, a good service recovery was given.
No upgrade for SPG Gold, at all.
Night market opposite, great food there.

Hello Steve,

Thank you for sharing your feedback with others. I am very sorry that you experienced service failures during your stay, though I am delighted that our team managed to recover from this during your stay.

We will be embarking on a renovation program this year within the hotel to refresh the designs and the products offered in both the public areas and guest rooms. If you do plan to travel back to Kota Kinabalu in the future please take a look at our website to check on the progress and to view our gallery for new pictures.

With best regards,
Fiona

Excellent value hotel. Room was amazing and pool was so welcome in the humidity with great sunset views from that area. Location right opposite the night food market was perfect and I strongly recommend the hotel for any visitors. I didn't eat there but all staff were polite and helpful. Compared to a more expensive 5* hotel in the same city I also used this was preferable.

The location is good, just across the waterfront. You'll get great sunset views from your room (if seaview) or from the pool (2nd floor). The waterfront F&B outlets are across the street and so is the craft market. Some might be disturbed by the strong smell from the dried seafood sold in the market.
Some of the conference room faces the sea which is nice. The rooms can use a bit of sprucing up as there are signs of wear.
The swimming pool is small.
Food served at the coffee house is great. There is an organic vegetable section which is nice. Also, for dessert, you can choose to have your ice-cream in a cone so you can have it to go.
Coffee at the Lounge is great too.
Room is nice and spacious but the are some visible wear & tear at the bath tub and electrical appliance.
Oh ... they have a freezer at the concierge so if you buy frozen stuff, you can keep it there.
Overall, a nice place to stay at a good location.

Dear aarbain,

Thank you for taking the time to share with others the feedback from your recent stay with us.

I am so pleased that you enjoyed the location of the hotel as it sounds like you had plenty of opportunity to explore the area and enjoy shopping for seafood.

Please make a trip back to Kota Kinabalu for leisure next time to enjoy the islands and nearby area.

With best regards,
Fiona Hagan
