“Beautiful Hotel”
Reviewed August 23, 2013

We stayed here for 5 nights on a bb basis. The service at this hotel is excellent. Staff are extremely helpful and friendly. Great selection of fresh fruits and food to suit both eastern and western tastes. Our seafacing room on the 11th floor was very spacious and comfortable with all the extras that you would expect from a 5 star. Had dinner in hotel twice and the food was excellent. Hotel spa is very good. I had traditional massage which was brilliant.
We went for a stroll about the area on our first day there and unfortunately we saw lots of big rats running around. This made me nervous and put me off going to night markets etc.

Hello neverwells,

Thank you for taking the time to share with others your feedback from your stay. I am very pleased that you enjoyed the food inside the hotel and also the spa treatment, I will pass this onto our operational team.

The markets across the street are very vibrant and as you mention some of our guests choose to visit them but not eat at the stalls. It is a good location to visit in the afternoons to shop for the handicrafts before the evening stalls start preparing for the evening.

Many thanks for sharing,

Fiona

Family and I stayed for two nights and were thoroughly impressed.

We paid the extra to upgrade and access the lounge which included breakfast and happy hour (5-7pm) as well as free soft drinks all day. Food was also available during happy hour which meant that we didn't have to spend anything extra on food.

The staff were outstanding. The concierge staff especially who helped us organise a taxi to take us to Mt Kinabalu and the Hot Springs as well as drop us at our next hotel. The taxi for the day was RM 450 bearing in mind that the trip back from the hotsprings took two hours , more if we were returning to the city.

The location is also excellent with shops and restaurants within walking distance. It is also not far to walk to signal hill observatory and the clocktower (if you don't mind the heat).

Rooms were spotless too. Overall very impressed.

Hello MooseJawSk,

We do have an appointed Travel Agency in the hotel, though sometimes our guests have a preference to take a more independent tour, I am pleased our team helped to arrange this for you. As you mention MYR 450 is a very reasonable rate for the time and distance you traveled.

Many thanks for sharing, I am sure others will ind this information very useful.

This beautiful hotel overlooks the beach and offered us a wonderful view of the South China Sea. We would just sit staring out the huge windows in our room, looking over these beautiful, pristine waters, drinking wine and just taking in the gorgeousness of our surroundings. It was unbelievably relaxing.

Our room was completely spotless and extremely well maintained, and our bathroom contained very nice marble with a bathtub and standing shower. It was wonderful, after a long day of sightseeing or listening to music, to come back to a room that was so comfortable and inviting. It truly felt like a home away from home during our vacation.

We couldn't have been happier with the hotel, and couldn't have been happier with the price. If we are fortunate enough to travel to Kota Kinabalu again, there is no doubt we would stay at this hotel again.

Booked a suite as a treat for our last night in KK. Got an amazing sea view on the 11th floor. Worth the extra money - very posh! Sitting up in the 12th floor lounge, enjoying the free drinks and nibbles, we felt like privileged guests.

Room Tip: Sea view is worth a bit extra - lots of activity to watch in the market and on the sea

Good location for both beach lover and town stroller. Just the same enjoyable sea breeze anytime of the year. Friendly staff and enjoyable surroundings. Beautiful room mender and smiling security officers. Room was generously furbished with plenty of extras like free popular international magazines and daily newspaper.Breakfast buffet is also generously offers unique borneo's seafood. Only drawback was the illegal Phillipinoes imigrant hanging around the hotel's entrance (back entrance). They're very intimidating especially at night. While at night there're always the famous night market surrounding the hotel. Overall, its a enjoyable stay year round.

Hello BeachBoys,

Great to read that you enjoyed Kota Kinabalau and your stay in the Hotel.

Thank you for highlighting that you found some loiterers around the back entrance, we will address this immediately. Whilst we have security cameras in this area I will ensure we step up the frequency of patrols in this area, specifically in the evening time.

Please come back to Sabah to visit again soon.

We had a week at Le Meridien with friends and thoroughly enjoyed it. Some points as to why not an excellent rating first. We booked two club rooms thro SPG but were put on the 10th floor, for what we signed up for from reservation the 10th floor seems to be the spillover floor as there is no direct access to the club as 11 and 12 have and after moving to the 12th floor on the 3rd day it is clear the room services and products are different. The internet access was quite slow at times in the rooms. The physical rooms and amenities are becoming a little dated.

The points above however did not detract from our stay because without a doubt the staff of this hotel make your stay.Getting high quality service in Malaysia is hit and miss in our experience of living and working here for 3 years so for us it is the most important aspect of a stay. It is evident the hotel management invests in the training of their people and it pays off. We stayed in Club rooms and were very well cared for by Terence, Vivien, Yusuf, and Asmah to name a few stand out staff. Kenneth at the pool bar was also a mentionable for his service and welcoming nature. His Mojitos were also the best in town! The Hotel is very central to town and the tour operators for day trips out to the islands etc which reduced need for taxis.

Room Tip: If you book Club rooms check what floor you are on. Floors 11 and 12 are the Club floors and 10 is t...

Hello Andrew,

Many thanks for taking the time to share your feedback with others form your recent stay! Specifically a big thank you for sharing the names of our associates who were a stand out, this is fantastic recognition for the Club Lounge team and Kenneth that we will celebrate with them.

The Club Room configuration and set up should be identical from the 10th floor to the 11th & 12th, though based on your feedback below we will take a closer look at the rooms and amenities, thank you for sharing.

Please come back and visit us again soon.

My sister and I recently kicked off our borneo adventure with a three night stay at Le Meridien. I had accidentally booked a smoking room. Upon checking in I mentioned we were not smokers, however, I was happy to accept my mistake. As they didn't have a non-smoking twin room available that first night we were upgraded to a one bedroom suite and then transfered to a twin room for the remainder of our stay.

The staff were warm, friendly and very helpful. Booking a taxi was so easy and they would translate our destinations to the taxi driver and negotiate a reasonable price. The booking desk also arranges tours at competitive prices.

The rooms were large and clean. The gym has amazing views over the ocean.

The location was brilliant. Just meters from the night markets.

Overall, I would definitely stay here again and recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Kota Kinabalu.

Hello Jander45,

Thank you for your feedback, I am delighted to read that you both enjoyed your time with us in Kota Kinabalu.

Our tour desk in the lobby is run by an independent company, we do receive a lot of positive feedback from our guests who book their tours so I am pleased you have mentioned that the pricing is competitive. I will share this with them.

Thank you again, please come back to visit KK again.

Warm regards,
