Located in the Banking Business Centre of Kota Kinabalu, one block away from the main street, I enjoyed many lunches and breakfasts at Ming Ge Café on Jalan. The owners and their family run the café and make many of the dishes from scratch. The Pork Dumplings with rice noodles in a soup is delicious. Ask for a Chinese omelette and you will get on with baked beans on the side. The coffee is authentic Malay-style, the tea Chinese. At lunch you can get a delicious fried rice. I like mine with very hot chillies and the man on the wok always accommodates my tastes. Mostly a noodle restaurant, duck, chicken and pork are cooked the night before and hung in the display cabinet. Service is good and fast, but in the morning and at lunch you may have to wait for a table as Ming Ge Café is a favourite amongst the locals. Almost all meals will cost you around 3 to 5 dollars. Most staff speak English. There is seating on the sidewalk just outside of the café if you are a people watcher.
If you are on a budget I would highly recommend Ming Ge Café, Kota Kinabalu.
