Fabulous hotel, clean, tidy, beautiful gardens, clean beach, fabulous pools. Yes it is a trek from the town (as described in the brochures), and they do have a captive audience for food and drink, but for a relaxing holiday, it was just amazing. The Sunset bar is great for dining on the beach and the majority of the staff are charming and welcoming and do all they can for you. the rooms were cleaned every day and the linen changed every three days. Perhaps lacking in 'local' evening entertainment. Perfect for total relaxation. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Perfect for relaxation

Room clean and comfortable, restaurants excessively expensive, pool badly in need of cleaning, sun loungers need replacing and the whole place lacking in atmosphere. Beautiful setting and grounds and lovely beach.

We came here for two days after a week at the Shangri-la Rasa Ria. What a contrast. Too few staff to check us in promptly. We upgraded (thankfully) to a Club Room. Good size but in need of refurbishment - the flush for the loo was unfixed and the room smelt as if it had not been aired or used for some time. Breakfast in the Club lounge was a sad affair with any food from the menu having to be cooked elsewhere and brought over. The member of staff on duty in the Club lounge was helpful and cocktails in the evening good enough, but elseweher there were too few staff. The hotel took the money for the cabs, which were more expensive than when we booked them from Rasa Ria (where they expect you to pay the cab driver directly). Cushions for recliners and towels were not that clean nor in good condition. The beach was very long but everywhere seemed grubby and uncared for. However, the spa in the hotel was fantastic and very good value - an oasis in a very average hotel. The hotel management seem more concerned to try and sell their beachfront homes which are being put up in the grounds. It is desperately understaffed.

Good
-The hotel grounds are beautiful
-The room i stayed in was excellent. Very clean and a big room. The bed was also very comfy
-Room cleaned well everyday.
-Free Parking
-We recieve free breakfast and upgrade on arrival.
-The activities on offer were excellent (Batik painting was fun and only cost RM15)

Bad
-Check out was alot to be desired as computer system was down so took 30 minutes to check out when we were rushing to airport at 4am!
-Breakfast although ok could have been better
-10% service change on meals (If im paying that much for food it should be up to me to leave a tip)

On the whole the hotel although not perfect was a very good place to stay and i would recommend it to anyone. If people are listening to the bad reviews take it on board that it is a long way from centre and taxis will be expensive as the want to charge return as they know they wont get a return fare. Its hard to feel sorry for people as car hire for 5 days cost me less that £100 which gave us the freedom to drive to many places around. I say hire a car otherwise you are stuck at mercy of taxis which are going to rip you off and it has nothing to do with the hotel.

Room Tip: Hire a car is a must!

We stayed here as a family of 5 with 2 interconnecting rooms. Staff at reception were not overly pleasant. The rooms were very nice, as were the bathrooms. However the walls were extremely thin and as the corridor ran right outside the rooms so you could hear everything going on outside.

The breakfast was nice with a good selection. Dinner was ok. Happy hour and the snacks at the pool bar was probably best! The pool was quite good and the selection of activities for teenagers was good as was the beach. The spa was very very good at this hotel. I can't understand complaints about the distance to Kota Kinabalu from this hotel however - surely you should look at the location before you book? The idea of a resort generally is that you pretty much just want to hang around.

Overall however the resort really had no atmosphere or soul. I chose this for our last few days in Borneo for some R&R with the kids and it was sufficient for that. However the year before my husband and I had been to the Shangri-La Rasa Ria Ocean Wing (just down the way) which was a true 5 star hotel and which was so much better than this hotel. We couldn't see how the Nexus could claim to be anywhere near the Rasa Ria's standard. I would recommend this hotel only if you can't get into the Shangri-La and if you can get highly discount rates - it is really not worth the price we paid.

Room Tip: Enjoy happy hour at the pool!

For how much this resort costs it is not worth it. It took us 1.5 hours to get checked-in. We stayed in the Villas but apparently to check in to here you have to be at the correct spot, the place is so expansive you don't realize where you are, signs didn't clearly point out where the villas are located. So it took us an hour and a half to check-in. The VIlla portion of this resort btw is just a row of apartments and the were was so much construction and noise from the upstairs as we were on the bottom. To be able to get a shuttle you have to be taken to the main portion of the hotel which is a 5 minute ride and then once you get there wait for another shuttle to take you into town which is 45 minutes away. Also there is no wifi in the room as well the only router and cable that you can use to connect to the internet is in only one room, the master bedroom, nothing in the living room or 2nd bedroom of the villas. Also the the woodwork and walls look shabby- like I said for the amount you are paying you would think things would be nicer and much more user-friendly, you are better off staying at a resort like Sutera Harbor.

We stayed here for a few days due to its close proximity to the Navy base. We had previously spent several days in KK and wanted a change.
Pros - hotel and beautiful grounds - very good Italian restaurant - Monitor lizards
Cons - food and drink prices were a little excessive (captive market) - not sure if this is normal, but apart from the 100 M of fantastic beach directly in front of resort, the was a lot rubbish washed up if you went for a stroll further down the beach
