My boyfriend and I stayed at the Pacific Sutera for 5 nights in May 2009. It was absolute heaven!!! It is such a beautiful resort.
I have to say that my absolute favourite thing about this place is the pool. There was no better feeling than sitting at the pool bar drinking cocktails with the sun shining and the music. It was heaven!
All of the staff that we came across were absolutely fantastic. They were all so friendly, happy and helpful. Even the cleaners would smile and say hello as you walk past them. The staff all spoke good english so that made the stay even easier. The concierge, Jack was absolutely fantastic.
The shuttle bus made it really easy to get between the Pacific Sutera and the Magellan. We ate at a few restaurants at the Magellan part of the resort, really good food and atmosphere. Obviously the prices are more expensive than what you would pay if you were eating outside of a resort, but the prices were still fantastic compared to what we would pay in Melbourne. Room service is a bit of a rip-off but that seems to be the case everywhere.
The resort offers a free shuttle to town which was handy, although there isnt really a lot to see in town, it's pretty poor and run down but all of the people are still so friendly. There are plenty of great tours that you can do from Kota Kinabalu if you dont want to lounge around by the pool.
We did a trip to the Shangri-La Rasa Ria resort to see the orangutans, would highly recommend it. The baby orangutans are sooooo cute and it's fun to watch them playing. We had to walk through a lot of the resort at the Shangri-La to see the orangutans and I have to say that Sutera Harbour seems way better.
Will definitely stay here again if I revisit KK.

stayed recently for 4 nights at the Pacific Sutera in a standard "golf view" room. I choose this due to the really high prices wanted by the shangri-la rasa ria . Had i booked earlier the SRR would have probably been my preferred choice - until now.

Having chosen the PAcific on price and location, we were not disappointed. The hotel was extremely friendly and as a mum travelling with 2 kids on her own, was very welcoming and felt safe, and not at all intimidating. Its a large hotel with a fantastic pool - the kids spent hours in there. You can walk to the country club in about 3 minutes, and onto the Magellan hotel in about 3 more minutes.

WE checked out both of these places as we love to pool hop !.

The beaches attached are just a bit of sand if the kids want some bucket and spade time, but are not true beaches. Do not come here if you want a stunning beach holiday. It was nice though to lay on the sunbed at the edge of the beach, and look out into the sea and islands close by . Nice and scenic.

Our room was about 32sqm - and just OK in terms of furnishings. A bit old but functional with a ncie huge window overlooking the golf course. The bathroom was just OK in terms of astetics, but supplied with lots of toiletry bits . Fruit was delivered to our room twice, and bedside chocs delivered every night - sometimes along with a gift too.

WE opted to hand around the various hotel facilties most of the time, but did take the shuttle into town. Takes only 5-10 mins and is free. Taxis form the airport are 20MR and take only 10 mins. So the location of these hotels is very good.

WE took a tax to the SRR to see the orangutans (concierge booked this fr us). The taxi was 160MR return, plus we paid the sanctuary entrance fees. Worth doing if thats all you do. Other trips, e.g. mt kinabalu park, hot springs, mangroves etc. seemed a bit too expensive and to much a a transfer time to get there (e.g 2 hours to get to wetlands for proboscis monkeys) , so we skipped these.

Information on tours was limited. ITs not like Thailand resorts when you can pick up leaflets left right and centre. WE had to actively seek out the info. the concierge pulled out of his pocket a crumpled piece of leaflet and handed it to me. that gave me the impression of being in a sellers market and having very little choice. Do you research in trips and tours before you go.

All in all, a great location, very nice staff, and good food , not cheap, but reasonable. After visiting the SRR to see the orangutans, I was pleased we had chosen the Pacific.

It's my second visit to the Sutera! Staying at the Pacific with my friends this time round. Upon arrival, we were greetly warmly by the Korean lady receptionist, offered welcome drinks & very much needed refreshing towels. During reservation, I specifically requested for a strictly non-smoking room on the high-floor. To my delight, our Deluxe room on the 7th level turned out exactly the way I asked! The room was pre-cooled prior our arrival, clean, well-furnished & more importantly - an unobstructed panoramic sea view!

The resort is actually made up of the Pacific & Magellan hotels, separated by a Country Club in the middle, plus a yacht club & a 27-hole golf course attached to it. Good thing is you can use facilities from any part of the resort; bad thing is you gotta pay to use them.

As for travelling, there is a free shuttle service into the city every hour. We chose to take the taxi instead, since waiting time never exceed 1min & it merely cost RM10 (USD2.8) to anywhere in town. The local food market located opposite Le Meridien hotel is a must-try. Seafood is fresh, delicious & cheap. No risk of being ripped-off as prices are listed out accordingly.

For dinner, we had a wonderful buffet over at Cafe Boleh. Food's great, choices are plenty, especially for the desserts. My personal favourite had to be the fruit pudding fresh from the oven. On the other hand, buffet breakfast was of moderate quality, nothing special about it. Though it's nice to have waiter & waitress making an effort to strike up conversation with us during meal times.

We signed up for a snorkeling trip with SeaQuest water sports operator located at the resort's jetty. For RM68 (USD19), it includes return trips to Manukan Island, island entrance fees, 15-min glass bottom boat ride plus snorkeling equipments. The troublesome part is that they couldn't charge it to our room as they are not related to the hotel. We had no choice but to make a trip back to our room for some cash.

Overall, the variety of facilities available, the superb room & excellence service quality makes Sutera Harbour Resort my favourite getaway destination. I will definitely come back again.

Wow what a magnificant resort - if huge resort complex's are your thing then you are definately going to want to stay and this resort. We stayed in a club room and it was massive, the evening canapes and drinks was excellent, the breakfast has a very large selection to choose from and the dining opportunities within the Sutera compex are numerous and all excellent quality. If you didn't want to you would never have to leave the Sutera harbour complex for anything as it is so large it has everything there including a theatre and bowling alley. They also offer a free shuttle bus service into the 4 major shopping centres down down, it runs every hour and you can also jump back on to come back to the hotel. I will definately be back - thank you.

After my last stay here last year for a business trip, I promised that I would be back to stay. Due to some upgrading work, there were very limited rooms at Magellan and therefore we stayed at the Pacific again. The 2 hotels are different in many ways but guest are free to use both facilities. Even the entrance is Magellan is a lot more grand than Pacific. The hotels are very well maintained.

The view from the hotel is great. Everyone of the hotel staff are very friendly, polite, helpful and warm. It is very rare because many 5 stars hotel staff treats the local guests differently compared to foreign tourists. No such nonsense here. Every guest is treated with great respect.
