Sutera Harbour Resort (The Pacific Sutera & The Magellan Sutera)
Ranked #8 of 91 Hotels in Kota Kinabalu
Reviewed August 15, 2013

We were fortunate to have booked the Magellan Club rooms (travelling with friends). Full use of entire hotel complex (Pacific and Magellan). Pool was delightful, good temperature and spacious. All food consumed on property good standard. Service of staff excellent. Check all items on hotel room account. Rooms spacious and comfortable. With Club facilities, breakfast was excellent. The complimentary drinks and food served from 5:30 to 7pm each night were excellent - very obliging staff. Tour booking and travel was all handled by hotel staff so no worries there.

We had stayed for 2 nights in Magellan club room. The resort environment is nice with good view. In addition, we were quite enjoy to use the facilities e.g. swimming pools.

As the location of resort is not at the centre, resort provides shuttle bus service. It is suggested to keep the time schedule of shuttle bus. Shuttle bus fee is RM3.00 per person. The time schedule was printed on the location map of resort.

Room Tip: seaview, upper floor

We checked in early July at Pacific Sutera, Club Floor.

Room come with daily basket of fruits and chocolates! The lounge provides breakthtaking view early in the morning as well as in the evening. I could spend the entire morning and evening just to enjoy the view.

Pool was adequately shaded that I could sleep by the pool 9am in the morning and still feeling comfortable.

I did not go for the breakfast downstairs but used the lounge breakfast instead to enjoy the view. Though the spread is not as much as the one downstairs, I don't have much to complain. I get what I want.

All in all, it is a Hotel that we miss and are looking forward to come back!

When we started to choose a hotel we both said "no" about Sutera Harbour Resort — because it's in the city, tiny beach, near the airport etc. But the more we read about another hotels the more we liked Sutera and finally chose it and never regretted. We stayed at The Magellan for a week. Its pool area is small but you never feel it because of good landscape design. Half a time we spent at the Tunku Abdul Rahman Park and it was amazing. 10 minutes from Sutera Harbor and you are there. Snorkelling was perfect. I've never see so many clownfish before.
We've been in KK city couple of times - bus shuttle is very fast and convenient; tried durian fruit for the first time, ate fresh seafood at the fish market etc. Very interesting experience.

I stayed with my son at the Pacific Sutera for three nights in July. The resort comprises two hotels, the Pacific and the Magellan. My comments on the room are limited to the Pacific.

Our hotel was very busy when we checked in. The staff were friendly, though there was a long line. The problem was that they insisted on delivering our luggage (one suitcase). After 30 minutes of waiting, I went down to retrieve my bag - they forgot.

The room was ok. It had a funny smell, probably due to many smokers over the years. The bathroom was nice with a separate shower and bath. The bed was comfortable. The cable television was bad. There were about 12 channels with only 4-5 in English. There may have been wifi, but it was hard to connect and was unreliable. Free wifi in the lobby area was sufficient.

The hotel had a decent breakfast. Something for everyone.

The best part of the resort is that you can dine at all restaurants at both hotels and the yacht club. There are plenty of outlets with a wide variety of dining options. You can also utilize all the pools, which provide some variety. The hotel has a small beach, though it is very rocky and there were jellyfish.

The pier makes it very convenient to get to the islands to snorkel.

To sum it up, this is a nice resort but don't expect five star service at the Pacific Sutera.

We booked into the Pacific Sutera and got a great deal. The rooms are clean and nice.
The breakfast buffet is a bit average, but that's often the case with resorts.

The staff were so friendly and helpful!! To name a few stand outs - Sabri (concierge), Nelson (Breeze bar) and the wonderful Adam (Al Fresco) were so friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them. it really made the place a joy to stay at.

You can also get a shuttle into the town for 3 ringits which comes through and picks up everyone every hour. This was definitely a big plus as you weren't stuck in the resort the whole time. You can go into town and eat at the night market they set up there, which has the freshest seafood at a fraction of the price at any restaurants.

Another plus is that It feels like you get two resorts for the price of one as you can wander between the Magellan and the Pacific.

Room Tip: Upgrade the room. We didn't and the view we had was pretty ordinary.

We have just stay at The Pacific Sutera for 4 nights in early August 2013. It is a family room. It is spacious and comfortable but with old furniture and decor. The beds were not as soft as normal hotel but it is quite subjective. There were damages in the bath tub. The air con was cool and quiet. The bad experience was at the breakfast buffet. One day we arrived at 9:30 but the cafe was full. We were directed to the lower floor but the food was much less than the main cafe. Coffee and milk were also run out without refill. The pool was not bad but there were a lot of damage at the pool bottom.
