Was in KK for 4D/3N from 27-30 May. Stayed in Promenade hotel which was in the city centre facing the waterfront. Booking online was hassle free albeit they require you to make full prepayment with your credit card. You may not get your refund if for whatever reasons decide to shorten your stay. Upon checking in, was quite unpleasantly surprised that our Deluxe room with King bed was unavailable since the online booking was made 2 weeks before. However, the front desk was quick to re-act and provided us a room upgrade to a jnr suite w no additional cost. Sweet..... Our room was huge with a spectacular view of the sea. It comes with a separate living + bedroom. The bathroom was super huge too. It had a separate shower area + bathtub. You could actually fit in a singe bed in the toilet too. Pillows and bedsheet were nicely clean and pressed, though I find the pillows too soft for my liking. Overall a good hotel, however may stay at another hotel closer to the main city centre & malls. There's many smaller boutique hotels which are just directy across from the waterfront eateries & direct links to the Warisan square mall.
The hotel was about 08 mins walk to the watefrront restaurants & pubs. Honestly, My hubby and I weren't expecting much night entertainment in this small city, considering that we were in M'sia. How wrong we were. Tsk tsk. It was a delight to discover a row of restaurants + Aussies & Irish pubs lining the waterfront serving a mix of western and local seafood dishes in their menu. Beers & cocktails were reasonably priced too! One of the pubs was having happy hrs all night long. Had my 1-4-1mojitos & caipiroska at RM18 nett. Sigh...wish I was there now as I'm typing this review.
1) You gotta visit the Tun Abdul Rahman marine park islands. There are 5 island altogether, but it would suffice to just visit 01 island if you have limited time. We visited Pulau Sapi which was just a 20min boatride from Jesselton ferry terminal. You could approach any of the counters when you reach the terminal. It cost RM 27 for 01 pax for 2 ways. Suggest you rent the snorkeling gear at the jetty counter too at RM10 coz' the rental is RM15 on the island. You need not go deep into the water as the fishes are swimming just around you. The marine fishes were colourful and a phletora of species to be seen. This island trip would indeed be suitable for adults and children of all ages. there's Parasailing too if you're into adventure sports. 15mins at RM130 for 2pax, which I thought was reasonable . Remembered that it cost double in Bali.
If you have another day to spare, do make time to have a walk at the KK Park & hike up to the Canopy walk. Unfortunately, we were unable to climb the Mount Kinabalu due to time constraint. But I will definitely return next yr to climb & conquer the tallest mountain in South East Asia.
Pleanty of message spas in KK city that is proper & clean. For 1/2hr foot massage + 01 hr body massage @RM50 bucks. So that is another wonderful respite to look forward too after hrs of walking, exploring and water activites.
Lastly, do have all the seafood you crave for. KK is indeed a seafood haven for seafood lovers out there. There are plentiful seafood restaurants in town or by the waterfront. Be it local or chinese style cooking, you have plenty to choose from.
Overall I would rate 7/10 for our trip to KK.
