We arrived from Hong Kong for just 4 days and were surprised with the welcome. Very friendly, refreshing towels and drink. Shown straight to the Kinabalu club where the staff were efficient and friendly.
Room Cleaning was good and turndown service excellent. Toiletories replenished etc. although on one day we had to complain about cleanliness of room and the maids had to come back.
Service around the pool bar was not what you would expect from a 5* - food good though.
Service in Kinabalu club a little below par and staff generally not trained in 'fine dining, or 5* service' For example, resting wine bottle on edge of glass to pour, clearing plates of one diner before other is finished etc.
Good views though, spacious rooms, excellent quality of dinner (breakfast a little disappointing), bars and restaurants closed VERY early 10pm and one bar closed at 8pm!
We took a taxi to town and the local food and hospitality was fantastic. Went to a local SPA which was about 1/10 of the price and fantastic!
Communication about trips etc poor and very limited.
I would recommend this hotel but jjust feel not up to Shang-ri la usual standardsMore
