We discovered Wildlife Expeditions in Sabah via Trip Advisor. We're so glad that we did. We made initial contact via their Website. We had excellent communications with the Kota Kinabalu office apart from a small hiccup when our contact left the company. However after a quick phone call to ask them to call me back, which was done immediately, all was fine again. Thanks Wyianna!
Our original booking was for a 3 night 4 day tour to Sukau, in the Kinabatangan River Wild Life Reserve, one night at Selingan Turtle Island park and a visit to the Sepilok Oran-utan Rehabilitation Centre. Due to some security issues in Sabah at the time of our travel, we decided to book a day tour as well, rather than do our own thing whilst in Sandakan. We visited the Rain Forest Discovery Centre and the Sandakan Memorial Park. Finally, after our two tours we arranged to visit the Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary on our final morning and be transferred to the airport for our flight KL.
Our guides, Wan for the Rain Forest and Memorial day tour, Byron on our Sakau River Tour and Proboscis Monkey tours, Wan (a different Wan at Sukau) and Larry at Turtle Island were fantastic. They all spoke excellent English and had excellent knowledge of their tour features. Wan at Sakau knew so much about the animals and birds of the area that there wasn't a question he couldn't answer - all with no formal training. Byron and Wan had terrific ability to spot animals. Byron even found us a wild Oran-utan. That was really special!
Altogether, we paid just over AU$1000 each for our tours, but we had peace of mind and felt safe the whole time. All accommodation, transfers and meals were included, so we felt we had excellent value for money.
