“Great meal at great prices”
Reviewed April 10, 2012

We turned up as a group of 11 for dinner in Chilli Vanilla - the owner was most welcoming and made room for all of is to sit. This is the cleanest resturant that we experienced in our stay in KK with excellent tasting food at very reasonable prices. The lamb stew and duck pasta were superb being equal / if not better than food back home. The desserts are fantastic with wonderful taste and finish off a great meal. Overall, a great European-styled meal at Malaysian prices. We are already planning our final night dinner at this place.

“a great find - simply delicious”
Reviewed April 8, 2012

We went to this restaurant twice because it was so very delicious. The menu was short and simple (just one page) but fully of unusual dishes that are difficult to find in KK (or even Asia) - like Hungarian Goulash. If you don't go there for the main dishes - at least go for the deserts. They change their selections of cakes every other day or so, and they have about six cakes a day - so come more than once to try all the wonderful deserts.

The food takes a little bit of time to be cooked, but we had stews both times (and they tend to take longer) but it was definitely worth the wait. The stews were full of meat, spices and some vegetables. The food was full of flavors from the Middle East to Hungary to more western dishes like a Waldorf Salad.

I would say to the review who said there was small portions - that the reason they are small is because they don't fill the plate up with starches and cheap stuff. There was plenty of meat in all the dishes we ordered. The price was a little more expensive than more local places in KK - but worth every penny!

“overated and small portions”
Reviewed March 21, 2012

sorry but this was just too small fo rus big eaters. the food was like a mixture of everything like arabic, western, morroccon and turkish, you name it, but otherwise not a bad place to be have a cup of coffee and watch the traffic go by. tucked in a little corner opposite the shopping mall called wisma merdeka.. be prepared for the price.

“Had to return to sample the delights of chilli vanilla again.”
Reviewed March 3, 2012

Having arrived from the UK and very hungry my first port of call was chilli vanilla. The food is fantastic and the service 2nd to none. If you visit Kota kinabalu this cafe/restaraunt is a must if you want to experience western food served with a local touch. The cakes are the best in town and with a great selection, you will not be disappointed. The atmosphere is great and very relaxed. It hosts a mixture of locals and tourists so caters to everyone. So if you are in kk and looking for an alternative to noodles and rice this is the place to try.

“Quality Food”
Reviewed February 13, 2012

My sis and i visited chilli vanilla twice in the past three days for 2 reasons; we couldn't taste all the dishes that were recommended and had to make a second trip as my sis was also leaving for kl soon. We had their calamari which was fried to golden perfection, their chicken roulade and their cold potato salad , duck tortillas, salads and their specials of the day was absolutely delicious. Their almond tart deserves a paragraph on its own.
We were disappointed to know that their red velvet cake was not available when we were there during lunch time but oh well, shall plan another trip there again. There were not may people during lunch time which i prefer, however for dinner its best to make reservations as the place is small and has limited number of tables. In fact on our first trip i had to down my hot ginger tea a.s.a.p (after stuffing our faces to glory) so that a couple could be seated and enjoy the wonderful dishes.....
