The Horizon is a really modern hotel in a great location. There are lots of markets and shopping centres within easy walking distance. On Sundays there are huge street markets right in front of the hotel, and every night there was a small food markets with amazing and really cheap local foods.

The hotel staff were very helpful and we were upgraded to a seaview room free of charge. Breakfast at the hotel is very nice, the hotel gave us a complimentary dinner as well, which was a nice surprise.

We will be back!

Stayed at the Horizon twice during our trip to Sabah, at the beginning and the end. The first time check-in was a hastle. I had written confirmation that we would have interconnecting rooms(travelling with young kids), but not so when we were checking in. They offered a couple of unacceptable options which I firmly declined, and then we were given the CEO suite with an interconnecting suite. Although the mistake should not have happened, they did upgrade us for the stay. Second check-in went much smoother without incident. The hotel is fairly new and very modern in its decor. It is very very clean. We booked two interconnecting deluxe rooms, (king and 2 twins) Seaview. Actually save your money with regards to the seaview, the water is far away and what you see mostly is rooftops. All the amentities you would expect, but our deluxe rooms have shower only, no tubs. The location is very central, and the Sunday morning market is literally outside the front door. You can walk easily to the Handicraft, and Central (produce) or Fish markets as well, just go out from the rear of the hotel and cross the walking bridge to the end, and you have arrived at the central market. The handicraft market is just a little farther down the road. We found the staff to be helpful and courteous.
Now the cons..... pool - small and confined. There are only two lounge chairs and two other chairs, so first come, first served. Even if you did want to pull up another chair there is no where to put it. There is no deck on two sides and one side is just a narrow walkway, the fourth side can only accomodate the seating that is there.
"pool bar" - this is ridiculous !! It is set up as a bar, but they don't serve anything (not even water) from here, everything comes from the bar on the ground floor. It took us almost 45min to get some water and a couple of sodas. In the end I had to go down and get some water myself. There is a drink fridge there, but it has a huge padlock on it and housekeeping apparently uses this as their area for stock...????? How stupid! Keeping guests waiting unacceptable amount of time for drinks. Wanted to speak to the manager re this, but despite several requests he/she never appeared.
We used the hotel transport to/from the hotel, it was 120MYR (2 trips) for a van. Now a taxi costs about 30MYR one way, and there are also larger SUV type taxis that cost 42MYR one way, but as we are five people with luggage the van was the only solution and cheaper that two taxis. The ariport is around 15 minutes from the airport if there is no traffic.
The only other thing I will mention is that the breakfast is quite limited in its variety, if you are only staying one night it's adequate, but we found it repetative. Having said this, it was included in the cost of the room.
We would stay again for location, and cleanliness.

We liked the hotel. The rooms are nice, the bed was good & huge (kingsize). We were 3 people but even with extra bed, the room was still spacious enough. The pool was small; max. 20 people were allowed in. It was never busy, so this was no problem. You could not sit in the shade and there were no umbrellas. On the whole, it was good price-quality.

Room Tip: we were on the 15th floor (nice view!)

This hotel is like a five star with four star prices. Very clean an excellent service. All staff are very helpful and courteous. Wifi only available in the lobby, but this is the case in most hotels in Borneo. I would definitely stay here again!

Having reviewed so many positive comments in trip advisor, we decided to book Horizon Hotel for 2 nights stay. We arrived KK very late by Air Asia, took taxi and arrived Horizon Hotel at midnight. We were already so tired and hoped to get a room asap. However, there was only one staff in the counter and he was handling many guests check-in. We queued for 30mins doing nothing but to reach the check-in counter.
Got the room in the highest floor. We booked a sea view room, however no sea view at all. I believed hotel staff allocated a city view room to us. Since I was so tired, we did not talk with the hotel on this issue and just wanted to take a shower and go to sleep asap. (please understand sea view is more expensive than city view room)
The setting in the room is okay. However, there is flooding from the shower area. Water is blocked by the sinkhole. The showering experience was not nice.
Breakfast is not as good as other people say. They provided enough choices, but taste is below a 4-star hotel standard.
Because of above uncomfortable issues, I believe what you pay is what you get. Please do not expect a very good experience from Horizon if you just paid US$100 for a night.

We stayed in Horizon Hotel for 2 nights in the end of July 2012 and it was a really nice experience. They have excellent location and Gaya Street just nearby. Room is clean and decor is modern with chic design. Undoubtedly, I will be back to stay in Horizon in my next KK trip.

Our trip got off to a bad start by booking online into the Sabah Oriental in KK (the less said about that the better!). We then went looking for another hotel and came across the Horizon the lovely Madeline showed us around the hotel and the rooms which were lovely, clean, spacious and modern (I was never out of my roll-top bath!), our room had an amazing room of the ocean and the Islands where snorkeling and scuba diving are plentiful. The facilities in the hotel are good and the hotel is in walking distance to all local sights, try the food at the hawker stalls down at the night market at the waterfront, it is good, fresh and cheap. The hotel can also organise all trips which they really do find the best price for. The buffet style breakfast is ample and good and all of the restaurants serve very good quality food.
Wireless internet and HDMI cables are free.

Room Tip: Do ask for a sea view, they will accommodate you if the can (they may even throw in a free upgrade).
