We stayed for three nights in KK and had a fantastic stay at horizon. The hotel was superb, well located and had a view of the sea worth dying for. We were upgraded to a better room and had a fantastic view of the sea and islands right from our bed. The rooms were great and the jacuzzi style tub bath in room was superb. The staff was very courteous and helpful and helped us arrange the transportation for our little trips and even shopping. Breakfast had little veg options but we were fine.
I would surely recommend this hotel for its location and service. Everything is nearby including the night marked for shopping.

Located in heart of city KK this is a great new hotel with fantastic staff. Stayed at Horizon Hotel for four nights and we were lucky to be upgraded to a Grand Deluxe with terrace on the 13 floor. Room had sea view out to Gaya Island and waterfront area, new and modern facilities, although space a tad bit small for luggage and no area to really sit and relax, but that was not a problem with lots to see in KK. Room deal came with breakfast which was excellent with a variety of western and asian cuisine. Pool area looks out to waterfront area with the only improvement needed are some umbrellas to relax by the pool and for the pool bar to reopen. For the price and location to other hotels in city KK this is definitely worth a stay.

Room Tip: Rooms with seaview and as high as possible

I would recommend anyone to stay at this place. It's right in the heart of KK. It's just opposite Gaya Street and you can see TARP from the rooms (or the swimming pool if you're not so lucky to get a sea view room). Our room was facing the hills, could see Signal Hill from our room.

We stayed at the family room, came with 2 double beds and were very comfy. The room was big and very very clean. Toilet was modern and very clean. It had a rain shower!! My only complaint would be the hot water facility. Had to turn on the water for a while for it to get warm, not hot. I love taking hot showers in the morning so that was a letdown.

Breakfast was okay and it's pretty standard. We stayed for 3 nights and they only changed 2 or 3 items on the menu each day. The Nasi Lemak was good. Another complaint, the head waiter at that time only served the Caucasians. We're local Chinese from KL and we thought we'd only see this kind of service in KL. Guess we were wrong about that!

I wouldn't let that one thing bother me because this hotel is really lovely. Would definitely recommend this place to everyone :)

Holiday Rating: EPIC.

This hotel is amazing, and I am really struggling to see how it is not 5 star! Here's a break down:

Rooms:

well, the rooms were pretty outstanding. We we're given a beach side deluxe room on the 12th floor, overlooking Gaya island which was an amazing sunrise and sunset. The bathroom was amazing, great little bath with a strange design but the shower is unrivalled. When they say its a rainforest shower, it really is! the head of the shower is about a foot wide by another foot! crazy. The rooms were amazingly cool thanks to the air conditioning, the beds are so comfy and they get turned turn everyday... twice! once at breakfast, once after dinner. Our room had tables and chairs that you could kneel at and eat around the circular table which was cool. Minifridge had the standard drinks and free mineral water was given each day. A 42 inch panasonic plasma was there at the foot of the bed to watch films and the safe was useful

Food:
The hotel food was great. We ordered room service twice, the best being the fish on both occasions. Tasty, delicate and went down a treat! gym looked great but didn't use it and the swimming pool overlooks the bay on one of the higher floors which is a brilliant view. Breakfast buffet was massive. The best bits being the smoked salmon, everything to make a cooked breakfast and all the fruit you can think of, plus juices and unlimited bean to cup coffee and sabah tea. The Asian restaurant is amazing. We had a lady called Melanie, who was great at helping with food selection and knows her way around a plate of local food! Just a tip, Mongolian beef was RIDICULOUSLY GOOD!

So the hotel is 5 minutes walk to the seafront, 10 minutes walk to the jetty to get into the islands which is useful considering how much time you can spend there. Local shops are the place to go (7eleven, etc) for getting drinks which are a 1/5 of the price. Check in was swift and check out was efficient, organising taxi's was a breeze and the hotel staff had a great response to any question we had. Internet access is great and all staff have nothing but smiles and hello's waiting for you!

Conclusion:

If your staying in Sabah, this is the place to be. Kota Kinabalu has loads of hotels, and we weighed up every single one of them and took a stab at this due to previous reviews. Yes, it is new, but my god, its brilliant. I've been to 5 star hotels across the planet, and this really competes with the likes of New York and Mexico for hospitality. Fantastic Holiday, Superb Location and more importantly, a outstanding hotel.

Thanks so much guys!
Chris & Annabelle

I stayed at this place for one night (30/4/12) due to on the spur decision to move from a terrible youth hostel. And an excellent choice I made.

Location:

Easily accessible to the shopping area and airport.

Price:

Pretty reasonable as I was charged RM210++ for a night stay at superior room.

Service:

The front desk staff were very efficient during both check-in and check-out times. In fact, i was in a hurry to get a room, and I managed to get it immediately with less hassle.

Room:

I simple adore the design of the pathway towards the room and of course the room itself, although it has a very masculine touch to it. But definitely contemporary. The bed was super comfortable (all I needed after my Mount KK hike)!! The shower was spacious

Overall, this place is simply worth it for a splendid good sleep and pure relaxation.

We stayed here for 3 nights and had a great time. The reason for the title was that the room decor reminded us of a batchular pad theme – very male orientated!! You cannot fault the rooms – very clean, cool technology, fabulous bathrooms and all the facilities we could need. The location is great as you are close enough to walk to all the malls and Jefferson pier is only about 10RM away by taxi if needed. We ate at a lovely restaurant called Vanilla Chilli which is in the block to the right hand side of the hotel towards the pier which was brilliant as was the Itallian if you fancy a change to Malay. We can’t comment on the pool as it was shut for the whole time we were there – such a shame as this is partly why we booked this hotel.

Stayed 2 nights last week with my husband in junior suite 1306. It was spacious and had a tub in the room which was a first for me. Bliss. The rain shower was well designed.Bed was comfortable but the sheets seemed to have gone through many washes as it felt a little rough and not sleek and smooth. Free wifi is located in the lobby area. Decor along the corridor and in the rooms were more on the dark side. The corridors especially could use with more light.

Staff were friendly. Special mention to the kind waitress at the cafe where I had a yummy blackforest cake. I was short of 5 cents and she waived it. She may have topped it up herself. Thanks!

Hotel is conveniently located and during the weekend the market is just outside the hotel. Loved the Horse statue at the reception but not sure about the lamp shade on its head. =) Will consider coming back.
