Crashed here for a night. Basic. But clean. I noticed that washrooms were being cleaned frequently so thats a huge plus. Biscuits, hot drinks and water available all day at no charge. Excellent service and friendly people overall.

Stayed one night! Perfect for a stop over! Excellent breakfast - help yourself! Excellent Sabah Tea :)
Clean rooms. Beds are a little small for talk people!
However the staff also hang out in the communal area and they were not very friendly especially on arrival.
Overall well worth a stay :)

I stayed in the 6 bed male dorm for four nights. Transportation from the airport was easy, the taxi knew the place well and it's a flat cost of 30 Ringgit. Pricey for the short distance but the alternative is a couple of local buses and man, it was hot!

The hostel is comfortable. The beds were comfortable, linens, two pillows and a towel were included free of charge. There are lockers for your smaller valuables but packs are on the floor. Thankfully there was only three in my room....if there were six, space would be tight. The one negative about the male dorm was that the window handle was broken and wouldn't close fully. Normally not a big deal on this quiet street but there's a karaoke place right across the street so the ear plugs came in handy. The AC worked nicely in the room too.

There are lots of carbs available for breakfast but not a lot of fruit (other than bananas). But this is typical of Malaysia... they grow lots of yummy fruit but it's hard to find outside the market. There are a couple of coffee machines that are always available and so is the food so you're not limited to a 7-10 am breakfast. Water is also available and free. You can purchase soft drinks and beer at very reasonable prices.

The Internet was hit and miss...again, as always the case in Malaysia I find. There is a computer available to use free of charge.

I never had to wait for showers as there are plenty of them... three with hot water and a couple more without.

Staff were a bit shy/quiet at first but warmed up after a couple of days. They are a nice friendly bunch there and they have a lot of information available on trips and tourist info. I found this place catered to a more mature crowd, families, couples, etc. A nearby hostel A-kinabalu has more of a typical younger backpacker crowd (and a more social common area).

Finally, KK is quite small so location isn't really too relevant. There are restaurants and a couple of convenience stores within walking distance. It's about 1.5 Km to the Jetty where you catch boats to the islands... definitely walkable but prepare for it to be REALLY hot mid-day.

If I were to return to KK I might try Akinabalu but this place had nothing wrong with it and I wouldn't hesitate to book here again.

We stayed 2 nights with Masada and will return to stay at least one more night before we leave Sabah. This is a sparkling clean, well organised and equipped hostel in a central location. Peter, the owner picked us up from the airport for 20RM. We went straight to sleep, having spent the previous night in KLIA airport. The beds are the most comfortable that we have slept in on our rtw trip. There is free tea/coffee all day and plenty of good quality bread for toast, along with bananas, jam, cereal etc.
We paid 80 RM per night for a double room with air con, shared bathroom and decent wifi. Looking forward to our next visit.

Room Tip: I think there are 3 dorm rooms, one twin and one double, so book in advance if you require a specifi...

The owner picked us up at the Kota Kinabalu airport, and took us on a quick little tour of the city before dropping us off at the hostel. Really interesting guy, great English, extremely nice. The hostel is tucked into a little side street not far from the main drag, so its within walking distance of the bars/attractions but secluded enough for a good night's sleep. The place is extremely clean and comfortable - not a speck of dust anywhere, and a nice common area for reading/hanging out/etc. The beds were fantastic - a lot better than my bed at home - and they were really flexible about changing rooms. We were supposed to move from a private room to a dorm on the second night, but when the couple didn't show up, we were allowed to stay in the private room (while still paying dorm room prices). The complimentary breakfast is basic but ample, and really appreciated for those of us on a tight budget. The staff also bring little jars of snacks and baked goods to leave on the table from time to time, and these are delicious. We could not have been happier with our experience at Masada and we'd highly recommend the place to anyone.

Room Tip: None of the rooms have windows, which is common in budget Malaysian hostels. So don't worry abou...
