“Conveniently located.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 14, 2012

This hotel is really conveniently located. I booked it from Agoda, Cost only RM129 per night, with breakfast for 2. During booking, i was informed that it's city view, from floor 5-8th, It was a pleasant surprise when i got the sea view on the 12th floor. The staff is friendly and helpful. Most importantly the hotel is conveniently located, and from the hotel, one can virtually walk to most of the KK City Center.

First, just opposite hotel, is a shopping center, called Suria Sabah, can easily find food in the food court located on the 3rd level (delicous too) and one can easily buy anything as there are Guardian, Watson, groceries stores in there. Within walking distance is the South Sea Sanctuary Spa, one of the award winning spas in KK. Also on the way to the spa, one can walk pass by a few local shops, that also sells some local products such as their local tenom coffee, sea bird nest, amplang (their fish crackers) at much more reasonable price, than the tourist centers. The Sunday Gaya street market (pearls, sourvenirs, shirts, etc) is also a short distance from the hotel. The hotel is also near the night market, the Filipino market, the handycraft market and central market with plenty of seafood to eat. However, the souvenir items and coffee etc as mention above from these centers/markets is almost 50%-100% more from the shops mention above. So if really want to buy from them, need to bargain very hard..

Also if one wants to go snorkeling or island hoppings, this hotel is also just a short walking distance from the Jesselton Point Ferry Terminal. From this hotel, i proceeded to another resort near Kinabalu Park at Kundasang.Gaya Center Hotel is very near the bus/van terminal for interstate transfer. Within a short walking distance(however, if have heavy luggage, may consider taxi, RM12), one can reach Padang Merdeka to take the shared van/bus to other parts of Sabah, such as Ranau and Kundasang. Our trip to Kundasang in the share van cost RM20/person for two hours trip.

In short, if one wants to explore KK city center, where one can enjoy the quite reasonably price seafood, sun, sea, sand, spa and shopping all within walking distance, this is the right place to stay. As most of the touristy area is within walking distance, one can save alot on taxi fares, which the taxi services don't use meter,so no need to bargain for the fares etc.. save the effort and money by staying here.

Room Tip: The sea view is quite nice, but more expensive rate....but one can also enjoy the seaview from the c...

Not very helpful staff with poor English. Traffic noise is quite loud in room due to the open corner
position of the hotel. Breakfast was very, very poor. Room size was good. TV did not have any movie channel. Overall the hotel was quite clean. The one thing in favour of this hotel is position
with shopping centres back & front of hotel. Another shopping centre can be found opposite the
day markets (a short walk from hotel) with a huge supermarket. There is no swimming pool.

Room Tip: hotel is situated on a very open corner block, a lot of traffic noise is herd in rooms

I have stayed at this hotel twice and both times were very pleasant. The hotel is situated on the bay and offers wonderful views, depending on the room. My first night I had a panoramic king room. The view was fantastic, I was able to watch the sun come up and see the fishing boats chugging along to start their day. The second visit I was in a two double bed room with a view of the building behind us - not so great. I will say that both rooms were clean, equipped with very comfortable beds and nice linens. Each room had a little refrigerator stocked with complimentary bottled water. The bathrooms were nice and clean - the shower head had fabulous water pressure, various settings and lots of hot water. The Gaya's service is fantastic. I never had to open the lobby door myself, as there were at least 2 employees assigned to the job. They have 2 computers in the lobby that you may use for internet access with zero cost to the guest. My room charge included breakfast every morning- this is served in their restaurant which is on a high floor with a beautiful bay view. You may enjoy your food outside if you wish - very hot out there, but nice for smokers. Most of the breakfast buffet consisted of Eastern food, so if you want more than Toast and Coffee/Tea and do not like Asian food...I would probably find another spot for breakfast.
All in all, I thought this was a terrific hotel with a great location and would I not hesitate to stay there again. Very good value too.
Next to the hotel there is a very nice indoor mall with lots of shops and ice cold air-conditioning!

Room Tip: Ask for a ocean view, the upgrade in cost is minimal.

Spent one night here whilst transiting through KK. Great location on the waterfront, found the hotel to be very cheap but clean and efficient with friendly staff and clean rooms. Very nice open spacious foyer area. Twin room wasn't massive, but fine and with very comfortable and large twin beds. Opted not to have the breakfast as we were leaving early. Would definitely recommend this hotel, great value for money and will stay here again.

Room Tip: If you want a seaview room it's best to specify this in advance.

My family stayed in a studio room and a deluxe room. The studio eventhough stated to accomodate 4 is comfortable with 3 person. It has 2 double bed, safety box, LCD Tv, iron and iron board, kettle and suplies of coffee and tea. The shower is excellent but it did not have a bath tub. The deluxe room has similar facilities but quite small. Overall the service was excellent. The hotel staffs were very friendly- probably the most curteous that I have met. The breakfast spread is the same for 4 days, and could do with more varieties. The location of the hotel is excellent with easy access to malls, market and jetty for island hopping. Overall I am satisfied with the hotel.

Just had a very pleasant stay at this hotel.
Taxi pulled up at the entrance and the bell boy was there to take the luggage, up into a big, cool clean foyer. Quick check in. Requested 2 cards and got them no problem.
4 elevators whisked us up to a reasonably sized well fitted out room. All clean and cozy.
The bathroom came with all the niceties and there was coffee making facilities in the room and refrigerator
The only complaint was internet, which is available in the room but vi serial cord(supplied) but very slow.
The breakfast was good and if you want you can sit under an umbrella on the terrace. Again service was excellent.
Shopping malls on either side, and a five minute walk to the on water dining.

Room Tip: All the rooms okay but one side is looking out over the ocean. Maybe try for that side, but it also...
