Been to many resorts there in Kundasang, and J.R is one of the best and value for money. Looking forward to come again and already recommend it to my friends and family. Good services even from the booking process, however they forgot to give towels in one of the rooms we stayed, so had to call Joshua. The view is really aesthetic and very calming. The noise policy is a plus if you come to relax. The rooms deco are nice. Basically everything was brilliant. Btw, don't use lowered vehicles to go there.

Nice accommodation for a family stay, 2 rooms sharing a terrace furnished with a dining table n a hammock. All rooms faced a valley n are surrounded by trees. At night, sure sounded like we were in a middle of a jungle! Downsides are no cafe at the hotel (cafe is avail outside, 5-10mins walk), my room's toilet won't flush n water pressure was very low.

Convenient location next to the national park entrance gives this place an additional star. The rooms are large and clean, though the walls are extremely thin, so if you're stuck sharing with a family with young kids, you will be waking up every time they do. The kitchen facility is just a teapot on an outdoor stove. The indoor/outdoor bathrooms are sufficient. The beds are comfortable enough for a couple days. Both restaurants near the hotel are pretty terrible - you have to have a car to get decent food on the road to Ranau. It's certainly a great value place, but don't expect any frills.

This charming little resort just meters from the Kinabalu Park entrance offers good value if you're looking for a family or couples getaway in this part of the Crocker Range.

We stayed in unit 3A with our friends next door in an identical unit, 3B. The design was modern contemporary, and the two units shared a basic open kitchenette with kettle, single-burner stove and sink, two tables and a few chairs. Our unit complex also has a little brick barbecue pit, and for RM 30, we got plastic plates and steel cutlery, thongs, a cutting board, fire starters and a bag of charcoal. Additional charcoal was RM10 per bag, so if you plan to be barbecuing for a while, best to bring your own. We had a great time cooking outside, though the lighting was a bit too dim and a massive cicada harassed our western friends.

Our rooms had sliding floor-to-ceiling glass windows that doubles as an entrance, looking out over the forest valley. The solid timber floors were a nice touch and didn't seem to be too noisy. We liked the fluffy comforters, but the bed was so-so, and the pillows were flat. There was little in the way of entertainment, a tiny LCD tv, a DVD player, along with a few dated titles, and no Astro. The ensuite bathroom was spartan but clean, and had an "open" design, so keep the bathroom door closed if you don't want the bugs to get in. A major issue for me was the shower system. This being Kundasang, temperatures drop to the mid tens at night, which makes showering a daunting prospect. Our unit had a tiny shower heater, it just wasn't up to the task, and the experience was frightful. Another gripe was the toilet seat that just wouldn't stay up, which was a rather inconvenient design flaw.

The resort is down the hill on the right side of the road if you're coming from KK City, so forget about glorious views of Mt. Kinabalu from your room. Being so close to the road means we could constantly hear traffic, though we didn't find it too distracting, perhaps because of the tree-lined buffer zone. Walking around the complex in the morning, I saw the semblance of a top notch resort: organized but unobtrusive staff, free wifi, good layout, easy access and excellent setting. J, the owner/manager was very thorough and clear with our reservation, following up our phone booking with a detailed SMS for confirmation. A few minor issues could hopefully be worked out over time: tile the bathroom walls, fix the toilet seat, install better lighting, maybe a phone line to reception or at least display their number in the guest rooms. And perhaps, in time, put in a competent hot shower system. I hope it's not too much to ask, and I don't mind paying a little more for that. Throw in a simple, hot breakfast and you'll see us here every month.

The next morning, we were greeted by a giant tarantula in the kitchen sink. This, ladies and gentlemen, is Borneo!

Room Tip: 3A & 3B has a BBQ pit. 5A & 5B has the best view.

We just stayed there for one night before we climbed Mt Kinabalu but still it was one of the best hotels in Malaysia. The room is really, really nice and clean. In every room there is a dvd player with some dvds (the TV doesn't work). You also get thick plankets (you will need them, in the night it gets cold).
The owners are also really nice!
