Promenade Hotel Apartments

I visited Sabah for the first time with a group of friends, and stayed here for 3 days. I have never dreaded going back to the hotel room so much before. The reception area was at the first floor of a shophouse, and we were assigned rooms. We walked through a shabby area leading to another block where the "lift lobby" was, and took the lifts up. The lift was small and doors closed too quickly (open button was not working). My friends and I had to run into the lift. There were also suspicious characters lurking around and we were all quite shaken.

The lift led to an even shabbier looking level where construction works seemed to be ongoing, and it was even worse than the shabbiest public housing estate I've seen in Singapore. When i stepped in, it looked decent, with a kitchenette and beds. But the floor was sticky, the bathroom lightbulb was faulty, and the aircon had strange whirring sounds. Not to mention that the kitchenette was not well maintained. We called the reception to fix the lightbulb and they did - leaving specks of cracked ceiling plaster on the toilet floor.

We then realised that there was the smell of sewage (like rotting food) drifting into our apartment from the ventilator fans. It seemed like whatever output from our toilet was deposited in some place that was near enough for the odour to drift into our room.

Thankfully, the other parts of Sabah made up for this bad experience. Although the price is cheap, I would dare say that such standards do not even meet the minimum threshold. Steer clear of this place unless you are able to put up with the possibility of the above happening to you.

We stay there for 4 nights with my friends. We booked Family suite and Studio suite. When upon check in there. We get a big shock as the room connect with the housing apartment which bad maintaine.

The studio suite a bit of old furnised and the air cond is very old and leaking. Sleeping bed and bathroom look bad. We quickly cancel the room and all jam with roll away bed in the family suite which looked much better then the studio suites.

If you choose to stay they because of the budget wise will advise to stay in group of 4 as you will find the neighbourhood or stranger around. Easy to travel around as many taxi waiting there. Near to most of the place of interest in the central with walking distances.

I travel with family . There 7 of us n i rented two apartments, one with kitchen facilities. First nite we had dinner behind Philipines market. we ate roasted fish, squid, stingray n sea weed. After diner i went to wet market to buy 1 kg if crab n 1 kg of shrimp which cost me RM30 only. back in the apt i cook maggie mee with shrimp n crab for the supper.

The second day i went to wet market to buy fish, shrimp n squid we had seafood lunch for the day. the best thing about renting an apt with kitchen facilities is, we can cook fresh sea food from the market. the price is quite cheap n cost saving for my whole family of seven during my stay in Kota Kinabalu. I went to Kinabalu Park, ranau hot spring tracking canopy walk, Kundasang desa dairy farm, tanjung aru food court for the diner. There r many interesting places to visit but i dont have enought time. i must stay 1 nite at kundasang to enjoy mountain scenery.

I rented car for RM170 a day n a boat trip to two islands for RM200. U must spend at least 3 nites in KK n 1 nite at kundasangin order to see all interesting places.

Room Tip: if u like to cook then this service apt is suitable for the whole family.

Promenade apartment near the seaside. Surrounded by shops & eateries and nearby the KK wet & dry market.
The management took up some units from a local flat to turn into service apartment. When we arrive, 1 lift down, the othe lift wasn't functioning well, broken call button, dirty lift. The apartment's common corridor is very unpleasant and dirty.
We were given a room with bad smell. Lighting in room was certainly not bright enough. Dirty pillow case, bathroom facility poorly maintain.
The kitchen facility is good, but poor lighting. We bought some local vegetable from the wet market and taste it fresh.

KK was a really fun place!! but this was the worst part of the trip!! i would not say that it was unlivable but going back to the hotel each night was a dread. the toilets had a horrible and strong sewage smell that filled the whole room some times.

the cleaners kept the place clean but the smell just killed everything!

we also did not feel safe in the place. the price is low, but i would not recomend that you stay here beyond one night

This place was completely miss represented by its website, when had booked over the internet to stay there for 3 nights. When we arrive we were completely disappointed with the standard and the condition of the apartment and the facilities in the building. We ended up cancelling our stay after the first night and found somewhere different to stay . I would highly recommend future travellers NOT to stay here is was very poor indeed.
