this property is situated right at 1 borneo hypermall, which is about 30 minutes away from airport by taxi, and 15 minutes away from downtown. (taxi fixed rate from hotel to airport rm50, hotel to downtown rm30). free shuttle from mall to downtown every hour. hotel room size about 35 square meter, no room wifi, but free LAN access. toilet has bathtub/shower with separate toilet and bidet. outdoor pool is on the 6th floor, and MONTSPA in on the 2nd floor. free breakfast was satisfactory. however, international dinner buffet for rm75 was the worst dinner i ever tried for a 4-star hotel. quality of food was horrible, and selection limited to 4 hot dishes with no grilled section nor seafood. saw small roaches all over food counters. lobby has 2 MAC desktops 20 min/guest free use. local tours are also avail at lobby. hotel connects directly to upscale 1 borneo mall which was very convenient for shoppers. the mall has a newly open portugese resto called NANDO'S. absolutely a MUST TRY! peri-peri chicken marinated for 24 hours, grilled to perfection--the juiciest grilled chicken i ever tasted. mall has huge supermarket at basement. gigantic department store PARKSON first and second levels, (during our stay, they were celebrating their 26th anniversary, offering branded discounts from 50 to 70%--what a treat!). during ramadan, the mall also offers huge discounts. this 5-storey mall is considered the biggest mall in kota kinabalu with big screen cinema, shops range from upscale to mid-sized stalls. for tourists, most stalls offer additional 5% discount on top of the 50% off, just present passport. ground level near tunes hotel is a thai spa called thai odessey, absolutely a worthwhile experience, genuine thai therapists..something worth mentioning. check out time is 12 noon, i requested for a late check out, front desk staff, freddy, readily offered me till 2pm, what a guy!

Room Tip: higher floor and corner room

I just returned from a 2 week stay at this Hotel and it has got to be one of the best hotels I have stayed in, and I have travelled the world. The room was spacious and always kept clean and all room facilities replenished everyday.Any requests were dealt with almost immediately.l must admit it was the friendly attentive and courteous and professional staff that made our stay there so memorable. In particular shift manager Byron, who was always at the ready to be of assistance. He became more like a friend to us after the 2 weeks rather than a Hotel employee.Other staff members we came in contact with and who were equally as helpful and friendly were Nazlina (reception), Wallhunter (porter) Freddie who checked me in when I arrived and was very professional Bob (reception) and Jacqueline (reception). I'm sure however that all the staff at the hotel would also have been up to the same high standard as the aformentioned staff. A huge congratulations to all the above mentioned people. You are all a great asset to the Hotel and thankyou so very much for helping us with all our queries and with all your invaluable assistance during our stay.I thoroughly recommend staying at this Hotel and if I ever go back to Kota Kinabalu there is only one Hotel I will be staying at and that is the Novotel Kota Kinabalu 1Borneo.Well done guys.

Having read a few recent Tripadvisor reviews about the Novotel, we braced ourselves for a potentially unpleasant stay at the end of a great short holiday. I’m pleased to say that our experience was not as bad as we expected.

We knew the hotel was some distance from the city, but that was not a real concern for us. Our check-in experience was pretty straightforward and we found the reception staff friendly and very service oriented, as they went out of their way to help us organise a visit to the orang utan orphanage when our tour organisers fell through.

We’d have to agree that the rooms probably aren’t up to the same standard as other Novotels we’ve stayed in. However, our standard room was clean, the bathroom was excellent, the air conditioning worked really well and, above all, the bed was super comfy. We did have to call housekeeping for more bath towels as our bathroom only contained one, and for the hairdryer that was missing from the bathroom. After waiting more than 30 minutes, we went to the reception desk and mentioned this to the staff. This appeared to work as the items arrived soon after.

Breakfast was fresh, friendly and efficient. The breakfast area was clean, despite how busy the place was.

Overall, we found this a perfectly pleasant place to stay for a couple of nights. The mall access and free shuttle to the city were a bonus.

I stayed here for twice and won't come back again for sure. It's the worst Accor hotel experience I have.

1) I was staying in 820 for 2 nights (2-4 oct) and somebody just came to my room. He left with any apologize.
2) the towers are smelly, especially the small ones
3 for second time we stay, just today, it took 45 mins to checkin. The checkin guy is Freddy. What an efficient service! Btw, the tower this time is smelly again.

Stayed two nights at the end of our Borneo trip and really enjoyed the hotel. The breakfast buffet was great. Lots of room for a family and good location as we had already stayed right in Kota Kinabalu at the start of our visit and were looking to relax. Friendly and professional staff.
