what a nasty experience. the food was lousy. although we had picked life seafood - a fish and fresh prawns - the result was shocking. we had ordered the fish steamed and the prawns just boiled. the fish was totally dry and tasted only of rancid oil: they had poured cooking oil that smelled (stank!), looked and tasted like used frying oil over the fish, the fish was "swimming in it"! absolutely disgusting. reminder: it was steamed fish in light soy sauce. the soup was just starchy with no flavor except a hint of tomatoe ketchup flavour (yep!)... atmosphere and service? a total turn-off, so at least they matched the food quality...

...in short: avoid this place!

Went there last week with visitors from Europe. What an embarrassment. (Am an expat myself, 13 years in Malaysia). This place served the worst seafood any of us could remember. Appalling to experience how they ruined the great ingredients. Managed to overcook a steamed (!) sea grouper to a degree that the moisture level and taste reminded of old & dry white bread. Shameful. Hot & sour soup that tasted like watered down sweet (!) & sour sauce from a bottle. Yucks. And so forth.
Then there was the grumpy waitress taking orders at the sad-looking aquariums (what a first impression!!). And the foreign waiters who couldn't have cared less about the guests (instead opted to let half of our fried rice disappear as it was gone after each of us had been given one spoon-full of it), an atmosphere that does not deserve that name.... one could feel throughout that their business model probably has nothing to do with retaining happy patrons but instead is aimed at one-off visitors (a.k.a. unsuspecting tourists, preferably by the bus load).
The upside: Kota Kinabalu has plenty of alternatives where atmosphere is more original, food is great and service is pleasant!

i knew this restaurant from the brochure i got from hotel, this restauraant get a reward as best chinese cuisene seafood at Kinabalu, so we search the location and it's not far from our hotel, 5 minute only use by taxi.
this restaurant have a big place, it's huge with 2 big chinese lantern in front of their door and we can choose the seafood at their own aquarium, yoou can choose all of the seafood, start from crabs, white clam, tiger prawn, scallo, etc, any kind of seafood you want to cook and request how they will dish it for you.
we spent much at this restaurant around RM 300 but it's worth with meals i have got, so so yummy, excellent seafood, no oubt why this restaurant get a reward.
Note. find a table with sea view at the end of this restaurant (outdoor), and enjoy the sunset around 6pm. cos i do that too..

The food was served fast. The staff were nice. Although, we were placed near the sea so we can smell the sea from our table which was not so pleasant for me. We loved the Chili Crabs! It was very tasty and wasn't so spicy.
