“Not Up To Scratch”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 15, 2014

We visited over the Valentines weekend for a quiet retreat. The resort is far from the crowds and situated in a nice, quiet area. Its a rather small hotel overall, only 4 floors of rooms which are shared with various common areas e.g. lobby, restaurant, gym, spa, etc. Its looking a bit aged from the paint on the walls and the condition of some of the furniture but the rooms are pleasant enough. I think the sleep quality is only average because the pillows sink far too much. Additionally, we put in a request for bubble bath only to incite lots of confusion as no one at the service centre or housekeeping had any idea what bubble bath or bath foam was and could not communicate to us whether any was available.

The hotel was booked out for a function so we only had a room on the ground floor which just looks out into a rather drab lawn, I imagine the views from further up are nicer. The pictures shared by other travellers of the view from the pool are no longer accurate as the trees have grown taller. At 6.30pm free drinks are served by the pool which is quite nice. The service is quite good, the staff are pleasant but I think overall the place could do with a bit of sprucing up.

I would have given this place a higher rating if not for the terrible experience at their Azur restaurant which was advertised as fine dining. We started with Grilled Scallops on Beetroot Stew. These were actually quite good if a little bland. No major complaints. When our mains came, we were very disappointed. We had opted for the Spaghetti Vongole which was edible (too creamy, too dry and again very bland probably because no white wine can be used in the cooking, although portions were generous) and the Mushroom Risotto which was a massive, massive disappointment for a place advertising themselves as fine dining (the rice was dry, hard and tasteless, I have to wonder if the chef has even basic knowledge of making risotto). We lost our appetites after and decided to skip dessert. For RM100++, really not worth it.

Recommended place for a quiet and comfortable weekend retreat. Good breakfast spread. Can jog within the area. Parking spaces are far from entrance. Better do valet parking, especially if you have young family.

Was warmly greeted upon arrival by at least 5 staff members which made me a little confused as to where/ whom to approach. After check-in procedures were quickly completed, staff brought us to our room (Premier Suite - Room 312, Aranda) which had 2 floors with another entrance at level 4 (Room 413); Pretty weird that a room has 2 different room numbers.

Safety deposit box was non-existent upon our arrival, staff searched around the room for 15 minutes and finally realised that it had been sent for maintenance. Safe was then replaced into the room but was not anchored (Could easily take the entire safe away with your bare hands.) As such, feeling that the safety deposit box was not very safe itself, we left it un-used.

The refrigerator found in pantry was also not cold, however, freezer compartment is working well. In addition, 2 sightings of house lizards in room (1 occasion found in bathroom, resolved by housekeeping upon calling them. Other occasion found around bed side area, but disappeared into the bed after my bath, did not inform housekeeping). Overall, room felt aged but cosy especially with the cracked walls and CRT type television.

Room service took 40 minutes to arrive, a big problem when I was rushing out especially when staff promised (ETA: 25min). Through out my 3 night stay, I felt that the room's air-conditioning was not working very well, room was not cold at all which did not pose a problem for my fiancée whom is afraid of the chills. Also, I could not figure out how the 3 wall-mounted shower head works except had to only use the rain shower. Pillows provided were also found to be too soft. However, the existence of the Jacuzzi redeemed ALL the cons of this room!

Valet service should be offered and initiated by staff upon arrival and maybe a large enough bathmat should be provided on the steps to the jacuzzi as the marble steps can be very slippery when wet.

Lastly, a very big Thank You to the hotel's General Manager for making our stay a wonderful experience for both my fiancée and myself.

Room Tip: Park view rooms should provided a great scene of Putrajaya. Hill view rooms should be avoided as its...

We booked via an external service and requested the airport pickup & delivery service.
The room was nice, they did not notify us of a hot water outage and the A/C was making mechanical noise on the medium and low setting. Other than that, all was good. It's in a bit of a distant location for touristy things, but nice green surroundings.

Had to spend 2 day trips in putrajaya, and had lunch at Shangrila given the good reviews and being a Golden Circle Jade member, however what a mistake!

First the pro's
1) Vallet Parking - only RM5, saves you from having to walk from the open air car park which is around a 5min walk in the hot sun

2) Staff - very service oriented and friendly

3) There is a baby room in the ladies wash room.

Now to the food...

1) Low value for money - RM110

2) Not much choice - i was surprised at the limited variety

3) Taste/Quality - wasn't impressed

On day 2, i had lunch at Pullman which costs RM65, and if you ignore price there was far more variety and better quality at Pullmans. In fact if the prices were reversed, it would have made more sense.

I made a mistake in my booking. I booked 1 week earlier than my intended stay and did not realise the mistake until I received a no show charge notification. When I call book.com to ask for help, they call the hotel, which kindly agree to waive the no show charge. Thank you for your understanding.

On to the actual hotel review.

The hotel is nice and quite modern. Staff are friendly and helpful. the room is really spacious and clean. I especially like the sunset cocktail. It was wonderful to unwind after a stressful day with some wine and snacks.

Things I don't like:
- CRT TV.
- curtains that cannot fully block strong light coming in from garden at night.
- average quality and variety of buffet breakfast and dinner.
