“Service and dining”
Reviewed February 6, 2013

I particularly would like to commend the "human" touch practised by the reception counter.

We reached the hotel at 8.30am, while the official check in time was 2pm,check-out being 12 pm)
We notice the hotel was quite busy.

While my husband had a business meeting at 9am, I was willing to wait at the lobby, until the check in time.

But i was pleasantly surprised when the staff let me check into my room at about 10am!!

This is an example of staff having the initiative to use their discretionary power, to make guests feel welcome and appreciated....by letting guests rest in their rooms.Instead of going strictly "by the book"

The shuttle service to Allamanda shopping mall and two other locations (even in the city centre) is guest-friendly. The hotel being in an "out-of-the-way" location, having the shuttle bus makes staying there more accessible. Increasing the frequency should be considered, in the near future so that tourists who stay in the hotel , in transit (via KLIA/LCCT) can enjoy Putrajaya as well as the city centre.

Keep it up the "human touch"!!

On the dining part....my family (12 pax) had buffet dinner a few years ago.For the price that we paid, we thought the salad and seafood spread should have more choices.

We had a ho-hum experience of the Shangri-La Putrajaya. It is certainly not a five-star destination hotel in any sense. It is really a lacklustre four-star business hotel, despite the Shangri-La name. It is a perfectly nice place, but the service suffers from poor execution, the food is mediocre and dramatically over-priced, and there are no amenities in the hotel whatsoever -- not even a convenience store. We had to carry our own bags in because they didn't notice that our taxi had arrived (at 7 pm, not the middle of the night) and we had haggle with the hotel over a seat on the (advertised on the website and room placards) dropped-suspension free hotel shuttle bus to the local shopping center.

That said, the rooms are very nice, and the pool has a fantastic view over the gardens and city. The hotel is by no means a disaster. It's just not as advertised. It's a minor-league, second-division version of a Shangri-La, not the real thing. It wouldn't even be highly rated as a business hotel, though apparently it's the best there is in Putrajaya (which isn't saying much).

Note that the hotel is COMPLETELY isolated in the majestic center of Putrajaya's central gardens. The surroundings are very lovely, but you can't so much as buy a candy bar except from room service. You cannot practically speaking walk anywhere except on the hotel's grounds. We walked into "town" (such as it is), but we were very adventurous to do so. We had to find another hotel to call us a taxi back. We did not see another pedestrian in over two hours of walking in Putrajaya -- that's no exaggeration.

In short, this is a functional hotel for business travelers who will be eating dramatically overpriced food alone in their rooms on corporate expense accounts. For those with business in Putrajaya, it is no doubt useful to stay here. But if you don't have to come here, don't. The hotel itself is not, as we had hoped it might be, a destination resort.

Room Tip: The "garden view" rooms are lovely to sit in and work in the room; the views are worth the...

I spent last week in sl putrajaya for business and in sl kuala lumpur for the weekend. I noticed a big gap between those to resorts.

Rooms in SL KL are waaay nicer than those in SL Putrajaya. I was atonished with the level of service also from the people at the Shangri KL.

I would say Shangri Putrajaya is good but it lacks of this "wow" factor that I came across during my stay at KL.

I liked the spa and pool area in putajaya but it seems a bit alone, so it was a bit creepy to be in an empty pool, empty sauna, empty jacuzzi, etc. Service is good and breakfast buffet also good, but quite pricey for Malaysia standards.

Overall is good hotel due to its location near to cyberjaya... But other than that... There are probably cheaper options with better value.

The swimming pool view is good but the water is salty!! The New Year's Eve dinner buffet was horrible, not many variety & dun taste nice.. Will never go back again.

If you have stayed at a Shangri-La property in Malaysia, then you might not be very impressed with this one. This is a good choice for business travelers who have their business/work location at Cyberjaya. This will save you a lot of commuting time in case you were planning to stay in Kuala Lumpur city!

The rooms are nice and the views from some of the rooms are quite nice as well. Their breakfast buffet is quite good and offers a wide variety for the international business traveler as well as a person favoring Asian cuisine! I really enjoyed their breakfast!

In my particular case, the bathroom was not cleaned properly for the room which I had checked into. The housekeeping staff did clean it promptly once I complained and I was offered a fruit basket as a pacifier! However, this is something that one doesn't expect at a Shangri-La property!

Room Tip: Get a room facing the highway.

One of the smallest Shangri-La that I'd seen so far with around 120 rooms located on the hill within Putrajaya enclave. The hotels is surrounded by greenery and nice landscape that refreshen your views.

Overall facilities meeting expectation but parking is about 100 metres away from the lobby on the ascended slopes. The typical guest that stays in are those with business meetings and the nearest mall will be 3 kms away - Alamanda Putrajaya.
