Chulia Street is old colonial, not just British but also Indian and Chinese. There are lots of nice old buildings, some very well preserved. Dozens of eateries at all price ranges. Because you will want to explore the area and not just Chulia Street the best way to do this is on a bicycle so you can whizz past the boring bits and get to something that you are more interested in.

Make sure you have a good map and lots of time. There are several interesting museums in the area so your visit could take a whole day.

There is a huge mix of races and all walks of life here. People coming and going mixed with a multicultural and friendly bunch of locals. Some great bars and an abundance of delicious food at rock bottom prices. I was buying fresh samosas for £0.20 and full Indian curry set with all the works poppadoms, na an etc etc for £2. The highlight of this unique place is that you can literally cross the street and you go from India to China. Just be careful of ladies / lady boys hanging around in the street late at night. They literally jump out of the shadows. It's obvious they are looking for customers but they would be lurking around the bars if there wasn't some nasty catch. You'll end up getting robbed or she will whoop out her long John silver. Keep your wits about you and this a fantastic area. Also it's a bit dirty and unhygienic and has a funny smell I'm some area. Don't let that put you off.

Nice to walk down a bit of heritage. One of the main tourist streets with good cafes, restaurants and cheap accomodation. Worth a visit if you are in the area. Similar to a lot of other local streets in other towns :)

If you are staying in George Town, this is a great place to get some Penang's street food. There are a variety of food hawkers which usually packed with people at night. It's just available in the evening for street food since they are not allowed to sell street food during the day time. You should go there at around 7 p.m. Prices are fixed for both locals and tourists. Happy travel!

Considered to be one of the busiest streets... an inter connection of roads leading from heritage to budget hotels..hawkers' stalls..moneychangers...watering holes frequented by travellers drinking beers by the roadside at shops relaxing oneself during nights...During the day...one could visit Little India..assortments of products...sarees...jewellery.Word of advice...Be careful when walking these areas though congested with buses.. .cars...accidents may occur should one not careful......Another thing...should it rains "cats and dogs"(heavily rained)...flash floods may occur due shallow drains.
