This hotel looks like it is a design boutique hotel but first impressions can fool you. It is actually an IKEA version of a design hotel with cheap solutions everywhere.
Service is ok but the whole section of the hotel that I am staying has a foul smell of frying oil hanging in the air.
The room I am in is big and with a good view but with regards to amenities it lacks a bit of class.
We stayed six nights at G Hotel while gathering information on relocating to Penang. It was great: comfortable rooms, very friendly and attentive service by all staff, room furnishing were attractive (note: very contemporary in style), Internet connection was no additional charge, hotel restaurants provided good food at reasonable prices. The hotel is located right beside Gurney Plaza, a high-end shopping mall which also contains many restaurants and fast food chains. The water front is just across Gurney Drive - no beach, but a broad sidewalk for strolling. Only negative: the air conditioning in our room was weak--comfortable at night, but insufficient during the heat of the day. It improved after adjustment by the maintenance staff. Other areas of the hotel were adequately cooled, so the problem may have been confined to our particular room.
We booked the G Hotel after finding the hotel on the internet, we have been travelling for the past five months and found this little gem. The Superior Rooms are very big, great showers, we have found all the staff from the front door, reception, restaurant all to be very polite and helpful.
The breakfast is a little bit different from your normal buffett which is great and they will make you a good coffee if you ask.
We also had a buffet lunch (32 Rm ) which was very good and a great variety.
We are in the hospitality industry and we had two rooms a Superior and Standard booked for a week, both we very good.
There is free broadband internet in the rooms which runs at a good speed.
Yes, there is buuilding work going on around the G hotel, but we found the pool area very good, someone else how did not like the pool must be very bashful.
Tonight we had dinner in the Seasame+Soy Restaurant and found it very good. The presentation was excellent.
We can only recommend this hotel to any traveller. We have friends staying at another hotel in Penang, all that I can say is that we are glad we are staying at the "G"
We booked the G hotel base on good reviews, and partly because it's new and locate next to the Gurney plaza and Gurney Hawker center. Our booking was thu malaysia-hotels wabsite and the rate was A$100/night w/o breakky.
The room was big, too big it seems need more things to put in. the carpet start getting worn but clean, the bathroom also spacious with shower only and the water pressure is so strong.
The problem we got throughout our Malaysia' hotel was it seems non-smoking room/ floor didn't exist!! We asked for a non smoking room when we made our booking 4 months ahead, and repeat our require with the front desk staff at check in, they still put us into a smoking room, lucky for us the smell wasn't too strong and I was too sick to made a change.
To made up with the error about smoking/non smoking room, the staffs at the G are so friendly they even remember my name and greeting me by my name! that is unbelievable and a thumb up for a 3 star hotel.
We used to eat at Gurney plaza, it's plenty of choice and price is reasonable, the famous Gurney hawker center doesn't look appeal to me, we hardly eat there except for trying popiah and that was the worse popiah I ever taste!
It was holiday and we drove from Ipoh to Penang for some shopping and birthday party later that night. We expected the party to run late, so we made quick calls to some hotels but most of them were full. When we went to Gurney Plaza to shop some more, we found G Hotel...
The place was perfect for us. Nice location near the beach, easy access to shopping, and most of all, it was incidentally just a walking distance to the party venue we've attended.
The hotel reception and lobby was very spacious and impressive with stylish, modern design. The only remaining accommodation available when we inquired was the service apartments. We were walk-ins, so we felt lucky enough to have an available room for the night and grabbed it.
We were very pleased with the room... it was spacious, homey, superbly neat and everything was kept simple, elegant, and not overly furnished. The room looked exactly the same with the service apartment picture in their website; it could be because the hotel was quite new. Another thing we loved was the Ipod docking system provided... listening to our favorite music really added pleasure to our stay. The only thing we found not so pleasant was the view. It was overlooking on the tempting, large, hotel swimming pool below, but was ruined by the ongoing construction of the nearby Gurney Plaza. It would have been nice to get a room with the sea view. (^_^).
After a long exhausting shopping with late partying, our stay in G hotel was totally rejuvenating. We were however not able to try their breakfast because we woke late. But we really wish we could have stayed longer.
