This is one of my favorite hotels in Penang. However, they have been resting on their laurels a bit recently. This hotel is almost always sold out, so no need to make any changes is the opinion I am forming. The rooms are large and spacious, but honestly the styling is rather drab. When you compare to the gorgeous lobby, you will see what I mean. The location is great, if you are not commuting back and forth to Beyan Lepas for work everyday. If I had one complaint it is they have downgraded their internet services. Last year, the G had blazing fast internet which is quite essential these days for the business traveler, but now I can't even get 1 Mps. I have spoken with several members of the staff who have confirmed many complaints from other customers about the loss of speed. Beds are quite hard, personally I like this but not everybody will. I have stayed in nearly every level. Executive floors are the best, but priced accordingly. The pool and gym are great! The gym is one of the better ones around if not the best at any hotel in Penang. Being next door to Gurney Plaza is a big plus. You have a multitude of choices to eat outside of the hotel. It is also a short walk down Gurney Drive to Paragon which has even more restaraunts. The famous Penang Hawker stalls are a five minute walk away. Laundry is expensive, so better find the place across the street from McDonald's at the round-a-bout. Shower is a bit dated, but has good water pressure. There is no tub in most of the rooms. Sea view rooms are quite nice and I would reccomend them. The TV selection is lacking as other lesser hotels in Penang have a better selection. There is no HBO, AXN, or Discovery Channel, no excuse for this in a hotel this nice. Some corporate penny pincher trying to save pennies to loose dollars on picky business travelers such as myself. Keep in mind I stay in a hotel room 350+ nights a year for the last 3 years. The club with the great name (G-Spot) is also lacking. They despirately need to change the theme. It is usually empty, even though there are 100's to 1000's of people right outside at Gurney Plaza outside strip. The breakfast buffet is one of the best in Penang as well. Great selection and high quality of food. All in all, pretty nice, but always room for improvement.
