A young couple run this new place. They were the most friendly and helpful hostel staff I have ever come across, this kind of treatment really puts you at easy when travelling in a new country. They are always up for a chat and have some great travel stories of their own. Rooms are clean and tidy, so is the rest of the place. Would definitely stay again..... and look forward to doing so :-)

Run by a lovely young couple who have done a fair bit of traveling themselves, this hostel is centrally located but in a more quiet back street close to Little India.
We stayed in one of the private rooms (double bed) which was lovely and very clean, although the walls were a bit thin.
This place offers an excellent value for your money and is highly recommended.

I stayed at the House of Journey for four nights while extending my Thai visa at the end of January 2014. The place is ideally located just off the main backpacker street where the minivans from Hat Yai stop. The staff are incredibly friendly and always willing to offer sightseeing advice or help in any way. You can also rent bikes from them, which is a great way to explore Georgetown. The 4 bed dorm I stayed in was a bit small, but they are planning to renovate and turn the small rooms into doubles. The showers are clean and have hot water and there is space to eat and hang out both outside and in front of reception. A very comfortable and nice little hostel! Recommended!

The owners are awesome, friendly, and helpful. They went out of their way to make my stay fabulous. When I arrived late at night and had only Thai baht, they even let me exchange a little money so I could eat. They helped me arrange my transportation to my next location. Every night we all hung out and the energy was just really good here. I would stay there again :)

- Cheryl and Rayson, the hosts and owners of the hostel, are kind, helpful, and hard working. They will provide you with all the information that you need, and can arrange taxis/ferrys/buses for you.
- House of Journey is well maintained and clean. You are provided with a towel. All facilities are new and in good working order.
- The hostel is situated in the center of Georgetown, in walking distance of all the tourist highlights. Yet it is in a quiet and peaceful side-street, which makes it a good refuge from the hectic buzz of the city. This was a big pluspoint for me, as many other hostels are situated in noisy streets.
- The rooms (I stayed in a dorm and a double) are well ventilated and cool.
- The Wifi is fast enough to use Skype.
- The hosts are actively seeking feedback and implementing improvements, to make everyone at home. A kitchen has recently been installed to make tapas.
- Breakfast is quite basic, but if you like big breakfasts like me, then there are plenty options nearby (eg. fruit, pancakes and noodles at the market at 20m of the hostel, full English breakfast on Chulia street).

All in all, House of Journey was the perfect place for me to discover Georgetown. I stayed for more than one week, and I am very grateful to Cheryl and Rayson for their hospitality.
