Description: (Cafe Hours: 12noon-7pm; Tue to Sat) A cosy little cafe tucked away in a narrow lane in the heritage enclave of George Town, Penang. We specialise in simple but hearty treats, especially favourites from many childhood memories of home. From muffins, cookies and tarts, to a selection of teas and single-origin coffees, to homemade ginger beer, fruit ice lollies, ice cream, and a small changing selection of hot-cooked meals, visiting Soohongry is indeed like a visit to your favourite aunt's or to grandma's! Even better, the cafe is actually the front portion of the owner's home, and feels like it, being laid out more like a cosy living room than an eatery. Here, one walks in a customer, and leaves as a friend. Come with an open mind, an open heart, and most importantly, do come when you are soohongry!

“Fantastic - homely and friendly with great fresh food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 29, 2014

No the easiest place to find without a little local knowledge or a map, but worth the effort.

It is basically a small room with a kitchen in the back, but the fresh, cooked-to-order food was amazing, a small selection of meals to choose from for but each one is lovingly prepared by the ever so friendly and welcoming hosts.

The selction was from various countries and we had portuguise chicken and prawn pasta, each one full of taste and flavour, washed down with refreshing zingy ginger beer.

Clearly the setting promotes a friendly relaxed atoshephere and we sat there enjoying a drink, sheltering from the heat for some time - a very pleasant way to spend a few hours in Georgetown.

I cannot recomend this cafe highly enough.

“A hidden gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 21, 2014

This place is such a special place: you can enjoy staying there for hours! After arriving in Georgetown, we wanted to have a late small lunch so decided to try Soohongry (after reading reviews on Tripadvisor). Amelleia and Rudy were really welcoming and so nice. We tried Pasta Carbonara (really good), fresh lemonade (also really good and refreshing) and of course Amelleia's delicious chocolate chip muffins (if you do not see them on the table when you arrive, no worry: ask Amelleia about her muffins and she will be happy to prepare some for you. Her lemon poppy seed muffins are also amazing). We planned to stay there for an hour and then walked through the town, but we actually stayed at Soohongry for about 4 hours! It felt so nice talking to Amelleia, Rudy and an australian guy travelling through Asia. During our stay in Georgetown we went there 3 times and were so sad to leave at the end of our stay...Thank you, Amelleia and Rudy, for being such nice and open-minded people, we had a great time talking to you! One last thing everybody should know: they have a room for rent - you can contact them through Soohongry's facebook page or through Airbnb (add on key words' filter: Stay in Charming Old Shophouse Home, you will then find it easily). Enjoy your time at Soohongry!

“Very very friendly place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 17, 2014

The hosts at Soohongry are probably one of the warmest people I've met, coupled with their fantastic-well-cooked-when-ordered meal (the apple crumble is a must must try), this little eatery cum hangout cum B&B spot has become my GF and my favourite place to visit in Georgetown. Do try what the hosts recommend!

“The perfect lunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 7, 2014 via mobile

A gem of a restaurant, offering Incredible food and unforgettable hospitality.

There are amazing currys to be had, as well as a selection of home made savoury tarts.
A must try is the freshly baked apple crumble with vanilla ice cream.

Don't leave George Town till you have paid them a visit.
