Warning - Do NOT stay here!!

1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Aug 1, 2008
Stayed at this "hotel" end July 2008.

Was for company function so no choice.

It was a nightmare.

1. Rooms had roaches in them - some friends spent all night catching them
2. Carpets were stained
3. Walls were ridden with mold
4. Beds were hard
5. Pillows and bedsheet were stained
6. Housekeeping was probably on strike
7. Our toilets were not cleaned
8. Towels were probably just re-folded and not laundered
9. Food was left uncovered for long periods of time

Staff, however were quite polite.

I couldn't wait for the day I could come back home!

What a good place to stay!
Very family-friendly!
Spotlessly clean and comfortable room, with a large double bed. The staff, who were very obliging and friendly, brought a rollaway bed to the room very quickly, after we arrived, for our son to use.

There was a wide and varied selection of foods for breakfast, even when you turn up rather late (as we did one day).
This hotel's central location (and swimming pool and outdoor jacuzzi) made it absolutely the ideal base from which to explore the heart of Georgetown, especially as our son was down with a cold that weekend and we were easily able to pop back to the hotel for him to have a break between sightseeing expeditions (on foot). We will certainly recommend this hotel to our family and friends for future visits.

I am not a fan of big hotels but it was fine. We were on the No smoking floor as requested and the room was clean, the bed was comfortable and bathroom clean and well equipped with towels etc.

The pool was of a good size and not used very much, although the spa pool was very hot!

The breakfasts felt a bit like eating in a school canteen but on our last morning we had to leave very early and we were one of only 4 people at that time and the food was fresh and plentiful despite the time - obviously an early breakfast is perhaps the best idea. The hotel was well placed and we were able to walk to many places and explore.

We were able to hire a local taxi driver from a local shop house for 3hrs at a cost of 30 ringits £5 and he took us all over giving us a guided tour to the paces we had requested and much more - brilliant value. Don't be put off by the tatty appearance of the old shop houses the food is great the people are very helpful and really friendly.

I stayed a night at the Bayview recently. For the price, the hotel was disappointing. The bed was old and hard, the room was not cleaned well, tv channels were limited and the food was mediocre. The only plus point for the hotel is its location, which makes it a good base to explore Georgetown's heritage trails. There are definitely better options in Georgetown for the price.

This hotel is located at a convenient place. Service from staff was excellent.

Our room was rather big with a seaview view. We can see Penang bridge. However, the TV channels were very limited and breakfast buffet was average.

There is a taxi stand just outside the hotel and pubs within walking distance.

I booked this hotel for about $50 a night on Agoda.com (prepaid), and it was pretty nice for $50 a night. The room was very spacious, clean, and reasonably comfortable, and the location is great, but there are lots of complaints.

The breakfast buffet was truly disgusting. They had chinese red bean dumplilngs, which I usually love, but these were spongy and appeared to be filled with canned refried beans. They had greasy noodles, hard hash browns, and a wide assortment of food from different countries that was all too disgusting to be eaten. I am a very cheap person and have never before skipped a free hotel breakfast buffet, but this one was so gross that I skipped it the second day and went to a roadside stall to eat Indian food instead. It was much better.

The bathroom of the hotel was OK, but not great. The shower was a little mildewy and sprayed water everywhere due to a leaky pipe.

By FAR, the worst part of the hotel was the service. I'd read about the free shuttle to the Bayview Beach hotel in Batu Ferringhi so I asked the front desk girl what time the shuttle leaves. She said there wasn't a set time, and that I could just tell them when I wanted to go. The next day, I went to the front desk to tell them I wanted the shuttle. A different girl was there, and she told me to walk to the KOMTAR building a mile away and take the bus. I asked her if I could take the hotel's free shuttle, and she said there is no shuttle. I asked her when they stopped their shuttle service, and she said it never existed.

Housekeeping was also very bad. When I checked in, there were no towels in the room. When I called to ask for some, the housekeeper came in to "make sure" there really weren't any towels, as though I might be lying about it!

I had a room with two beds, and each just had a thin blanket, so I used the blankets from both beds on my one bed since it was cold. When housekeeping came to clean up the next morning, all they did was make the bed, and they went out of their way to remove all the sheets that went with the second bed, so I just had the thin blanket on one bed and a bare mattress on the other one. I had to ask them for an extra blanket, which took about an hour for them to deliver. They also failed to give me the two bottles of water that are supposed to be provided each day.

The hotel's spa looks nice, but I didn't get to try it. They only take cash, and they aren't affiliated with the hotel, so you can't have their services added to your bill either.

All in all, it's a decent, clean, safe hotel for $50, but it's definitely not any kind of luxury.
