Especially in the evening the area becomes alive and people getting street food mania there. The Little India quarter is surely a must visit in Penang.

“Sensational!”
Reviewed January 27, 2013

Bring a camera with lots of space for pictures, bottled water, and an appetite for food and adventure! Amble around and smile! Take a genuine interest in what you see and you will discover how relational and friendly Penang is!

These little streets are ideal for walking and scooters, not cars. Allow yourself to meander through the side streets since there is so much to see and experience! Beware of your valuables and pay attention to who is around you--stay safe.

There are 3 flagship indian restaurants here that i like:

Velho villas
Sri Ananda Bhawan
Karaikudi

Consider getting the ubiquitous vegetable set meal or "banana leaf", then sit back and gawk as they serve you a montain of food for about RM5. 3 vegetles with rice, pappadum crackers, lentil curry, assam soup and lime pickle on request. You can always add meats and fish as you desire, but the set meal is a lot to eat. A silky mango or sweet lassi (yoghurt drink) will certainly ease the pain of a fiery curry.

I also enjoy chicken samosas and vada in these restaurants or from street vendors. Then I usually end my meal with a lovely sweet treat from one of the shops.

“Sights, sounds, smells....they are all here”
Reviewed January 20, 2013

This was one of my favourite areas of Georgetown. Although it was during the day, it was an assault on your senses - bright garlaands of flowers, sari shops, blarring Bollywood music, wonderful aroma of food cooking. I had Roti Canai from a street stall for RM1. It was absolutely delicious. Just loose yourself in the streets and soak up the atmosphere. Unfortunately I didn't have time to return at night, when as others have said, it is at its absolute best

“Take a Trishaw around!”
Reviewed December 28, 2012

We loved Queen street and the surrounding streets of little India. It is well worth a walk day or night, both if you have the time :) The aroma of the food cooking is tantalizing. We highly recommend the hire of a trishaw, we were not so sure at first but ours took us to little nicks and crannies we were not aware of on our own, he barely spoke English but communicated extremely well with us, we loved the experience.

“Quaint...”

One can roam these streets in the day or night. It has an old feel to it...other streets that are parallel and adjacent also exudes the same kind of warmth. Don't forget your cameras!
