There's not one thing I didn't like at Stay Syok.
The staff was awesome, really helpful.
The communal area is great to have breakfast, watch TV, meet people.
And the hotel is really well situated on Chulia street.
I wish I could come back again, maybe I will.

Room Tip: Try to stay away from the windows, the streets can be a bit noisy.

I stayed for two nights here this month and can honestly say its one of the best hostels I've stayed in. Really clean, modern and nice design. The staff are so friendly and happy to help with anything you need to know about Georgetown. The common area is best bit, complete with cable tv, dart board, fuzz ball, bean bags , Internet pc, etc. The dorms are clean and spacious with all you could want.
The only negative was some street noise at night and early morning in the dorms.
Stay here you won't be disappointed and thanks again to the staff, especially Sheila, for all your help and a pleasant stay in Georgetown!

Just returned from a 3 day trip in Penang and I couldn't have asked for a better place to stay during my time there. First and foremost the staff are exceptional and go out of their way to help you make the most out of this beautiful area. Special mention to Tim and Kati for helping me plan my days and encouraging me to go a little further afield to see the best of what the island has to offer.

The hostel itself is new and spotlessly clean. The beds are comfy and come with a good sized secure locker (bring your own padlock). I stayed in the mixed dorm on the first floor - the noise of the traffic is the only thing that could bother you but after a full day of sightseeing, sleeping isn't an issue! I did meet someone who mentioned that the female dorms seemed further removed from the road, so perhaps something to think about for next time.

The bathrooms and showers are excellent as is the common room upstairs. Good wifi and a free computer if you don't have your own...

Fab location, 5 minute walk from Little India, 10 min walk to the Jetty, with excellent accesses to buses if you fancy going a little further afield.

I wish all hostels were like this, can't recommend it highly enough. Thanks again to everyone who made this such an enjoyable stay for me!

I stayed here for two nights with two friends in the Female A dorm. The rooms were very clean, and the beds were comfy. The hostel was modern and nicely decorated, which gave it a homey feel. The location on Chulia St was great. We were able to reach everywhere in Georgetown by foot, and there are some great food stalls on Chulia St at nighttime. The hostel felt very safe, and the staff were very kind and couldn't have been more helpful!

Room Tip: Brings earplugs as the street noise is quite loud at night, and prayers at the mosque begin at 5.30a...

Dear Alyssajt,

Thank you for the positive review. Our team is always happy to see that our guests enjoyed our hostel.
Regarding the noise from the mosque, we can't change that very much but we do provide ear plugs to anyone to needs them. We are located in the central area and it tends to be quite animated during the evenings, nevertheless it's a details that creates the charm of Syok.
We do hope to see you in Syok again and please do not hesitate to ask for ear plugs !

Wishing you a great Merdeka Day!
