The hotel is absolutely stunning and suite we had was extremely comfortable and tastefully done. The enormous shower/ bathroom is awesome - unless you are very shy, open up all the doors to the living room!
And on top of all that, the food at the restaurant was sublime! A really creative reimagining of Peranakan cuisine without being pretentious or annoyingly "nouvelle."
A gem. Definitely want to stay there the next time I am up in Penang.
(Can be a little hard to find, so get clear directions to give the taxi driver before you go and you will be fine.)

Room Tip: Both sides are fine, just depending on whether or not you need a balcony/deck. I would go for the t...

A sumptuous experience - all the elegance and style of old - updated with sybaritic finesse.

I loved the raindrop shower, the capacious rooms, casual but well-placed artifacts, gorgeous woodwork and generous attention to detail - even the electric kettle suggested a Nyonya provenance!

Dinner? Mwah! out of this world!

The owners of several boutique hotels in the region, Chris Ong and Karl Steinberg, have outdone themselves this time and really upped the ante on boutique heritage hotels in creating SevenTerraces out of the ruins of 7 peranakkan terrace houses from the 19th century. It is indeed a Phoenix - the symbol of the peranakkans. Discover this gem before others do as it radiates beauty, offers uplifting service, and is a real sanctuary for one's spirit after a day out in the heat at the heart of heritage Georgetown. I soaked up the nurturing for my exhausted mind, body and spirit and left revived and recharged from the loving care of the staff and the ambience provided by the richness of the genuine antique collection exquisitely displayed. The Bababar and Kebaya Restaurant will soon be the buzz of town for I could feel the passion that went into the creation of the menu - making new out of old traditional dishes - and the energy in the room where old and new friends meet and hangout.

Room Tip: All the rooms are excellent and beautiful but the ones facing Argus Lane are super because of the ba...

Booked a Stewart Lane suite and was upgraded to an Argus Lane suite.
(1) Very spacious and tastefully decorated.
(2) Extremely comfortable bed.
(3) Good restaurant / bar serving Nyonya cuisine (fusion of Chinese, Malay and Thai).

There a few quirks
(1) Suite was on two levels, hence not suitable for guests with limited mobility. I believe the Stewart Lane suites are on one level.
(2) When I booked (Dec 2012), "full" online booking was not yet available. They had to email over a form which I had to print out, complete, scan and send back to them.

Room Tip: Argus Lane suites have balconies facing the 19th century St George's church, a recently restored...

Seven Terraces is a well presented set of seven terrace houses in a world heritage area, with a stunning pool and courtyard in the middle of the buildings.
The staff were very kind and helpful, and added to a lovely atmosphere.
When we saw our room, the size and decor were jaw dropping. They were unique, with a combination of antique decoration with modern technology, including air-con and flat screen tvs. The oversized bathrooms were luxurious and expansive.
Great breakfasts were included too!
All in all, the hotel was stunning, and I'd give it 10/10, and would definitely go back, and recommend it to others.

Room Tip: All the rooms are lovely, but if you have specific needs, like extra bedrooms, the hotel staff give...

7terraces is a fantastic new oasis in the centre of heritage Penang. You can just cut out through the backdoor and you are right in the middle of the most happening part if Penang.
The rooms on first sight which are all fitted out with old local antiques don't local that inviting but once you settle in they are comfortable spacious and luxurious. The rain drop showers are heaven.
The decorative style is so evocative of old Penang you don't really need to go on a visit to any of the other old houses in Penang as 7Terraces seems to have all the best elements of any other place I have seen. The attached shop is more a collectors dream than a shop.
The staff are friendly and efficient and thoughtful, like a glass of water quickly appearing when you return from a trek outside.
As in all new hotels there were a few teething issues during our stay but these were very speedily rectified by manger Ewan who is completely on the ball and running a good team.
Breakfast is an absolute delight as is the food in the Kebaya restaurant ( reviewed separately).
The pricing for a hotel is this quality is very reasonable so if you're planning a visit to Penang and really what to feel you are in Penang this is the place to stay

Room Tip: If you have trouble with stairs ask for the rooms that do not have them. A little smaller but maybe...

Newly opened boutique hotel, Seven Terraces, is an absolute delight. Lovingly restored grand terrace houses provide twenty-first century comfort in a heritage setting. While flat screen TVs, wireless internet, a blue-tiled lap pool, air-conditioning, bar, restaurant and other facilities ensure five star comfort and convenience, the overwhelming experience is of a traditional Straits Chinese mansion. Vast spaces are furnished with restraint and beauty using a combination of genuine antiques and locally crafted reproductions. Gilded, carved timber, cool, tessellated tiled floors, mother-of-pearl inlay, soaring columns, orchids and frangipani create a wonderful atmosphere and a setting conducive to relaxation and friendly interchange with fellow guests.
It is not always easy to find accommodation suited to the needs of travelling with husband and teenage son. Our rooms in the Stewart Lane Grand Suite were perfect. We felt like welcome guests in a grand family home and the congenial public spaces, including library, pool and dining areas, added to this. Friendly, helpful staff were able to offer advice, make useful suggestions and organise a heritage walk.
Seven Terraces is positioned in the midst of Georgetown’s fascinating heritage area, and in easy walking distance of temples, clan houses, mansions, shops and eateries.
It is nice to be able to spend one’s tourist dollar on accommodation which has given new life to crumbling ruins. The highlight of our trip to SE Asia this time, Seven Terraces might well be our sole destination next time.
