I booked this hotel through Expedia, that too 9 days before my travel. I have gone through the previous reviews of this hotel but was not sure what expects me at Penang. But it was simply great. It was in a perfect location and the room was beautiful. Everything in the room (The TV, the bed, the bathroom..) everything was in perfect condition. It was neat and well maintained. The best part was the view from our room. We got a good view of the vibrant Gurney drive and the beautiful sea. The staff was also very helpful. One of the staff actually provided a lot of information that we were able to complete couple of sight seeing location in a day and also it saved us some money.

In short i would rate different aspects as..

Location : The best place in george town
Room : We got a sea facing room at 11th floor and it was simply awesome
Staff : A very friendly people
Food : Since Penang is famous for food, we had most of our food from the city, only had a dinner from here and it was good.
Value for money : for 90 CAD for a deluxe room, it was the deal of the trip.

I would recommend this to all, and would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Go for the rooms with a sea view

Overall, this is a good hotel and most aspects are satisfactory yet it never really exude upon us that it is a 5-star hotel. However, the room rates are probably on the lower end of most 5-star hotels. The room was spacious, clean and well kept. We got a deluxe sea-view room so the view was not too bad. Apart from the lack of toiletries in the bath room, some faltering room lighting (which were rectified after informing the front desk) and a couple of shoddy power points, there were nothing else to complain about really. There is free internet in the rooms, but strangely it is still provided thru an Ethernet cable, considering the multitude of mobile devices using Wi-Fi that people carry nowadays. Still, it saves you from having to pay for internet access.

The breakfast spread is rather well-thought of and varied. The menu is changed daily, for the most parts at least, and this is a welcomed departure from your other run-of-the-mill repetitive affair that you might get in most other hotels. And if that does not satisfy you, being in Penang, you are never short of any options for good food. The hotel is situated on Gurney Drive, so there are plenty of restaurants, eateries, hawker stalls, cafes, pubs and even a shopping mall with cinema…all within walking distance.

With the abundance of various hotel accommodations available in Penang, this hotel wouldn’t have been on the top of my list if it were not for some specific reasons. Although it is alright for short stays, I’m sure you would be able to find better deals if you shop around. That being said, as I mentioned earlier, there was nothing to complain about it really.

Checking in to the Evergreen was a welcome relief to our previous hotel in Langkawi. It is well located and the rooms are great. The Lobby Lounge Bar is good with happy hour from 4pm and a live band from 9. Staff are excellent and the breakfast is varied and good. We had the Thursday night smorgasbord and it was very good, plenty of variety. Would recommend.

Only two reasons why we keep coming back to Evergreen. Housekeeping has been consistently good for the past few times we've been here. Second is its good location on Gurney Drive makes it really convenient.
A good choice if these two reasons override everything else ie decor is outdated, not much of facilities, service is so so.

From Komtar take bus 103(RM1.40), about 10-15min.
Few "kopitiam" near by, and Subway, Starbark and Coffee bean is just 10min walk.
Good city view(from my room), room is clean and comfortable.
ONLY the 11th floor with wifi and it is not free!!!

Room Tip: only 11th floor with wifi

We cancelled our hotel in Batu Ferringhi as we heard it was a noisey resort and chose the Evergreen as a quieter alternative closer to Georgetown. The hotel is set back from the road and 10 minutes walk from Guerney Plaza, the night market and hawker stalls. There are quite a few restaurants of all kinds in this area with excellent shopping too.
The hotel had a mix of business and leisure guests and had entertainment in the bar most nights with drinks promotions. It is 15-20 minutes walk into Georgetown. We used the Hotel pool everyday and almost had it too ourselves, it was a good size for swimming. There was also a sauna, gym, tennis courts, business area, spa treatments and massage if you want. The restaurant catered for east and west and was very nice with good coffee, always a must! Our room was quiet, with the exception of some guests one night which the hotel staff sorted out. We did a few local trips using the travel desk in the lobby, the trips were a private car through the hotel, reasonable with excellent friendly drivers.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back away from the street are quieter, so get to look out at the mountain which is nice...

Stayed here for business. Friendly front desk service along with great business centre facilities. Rooms were slightly old as this property is 15 years old, however the interior of the room is well up kept. Value for money.
