“Would surely comeback..”
Reviewed July 26, 2010

it's an old hotel but well-maintained (most of the hotel in penang is old enough, the latest ones surely cost a lot).
the staff is incredible.
the room is fabulous specially the view (we were on the 12th floor).
the room is fully equipped with 2 large twin-beds that i enjoyed so much.

they just need to change the carpet to wooden floor and the bath tub to just a shower room would be better.

the internet is free whether using wifi connection (in the lobby) or through WLAN (in the room).

the location is great.

i'll surely comeback to this hotel whenever i visit penang (which is mostly once a year)

Stayed in this hotel as part of our Malaysian trip, Okay so not as sleek and modern as its KL cousin, but a great hotel in its own right. The location is perfect for exploring Georgetown and Penang, the bus station is next door, and Taxis in abundance. The hotel was clean ,comfortable and had a nice bar area for a relaxing drink the only downside was that our neighbours in the adjoining room were a little noisey, as there was a connecting door between the two rooms that meant the soundproofing was not great, however all in all a fantastic stay.

One would be hard pressed to find anything wrong with this establishment. It was courteous friendly staff from check-in to check-out. The room was a decent size though not huge but it had all the amenities...robes and slippers, iron and ironing board, tea and coffee facilities, mini bar, hairblower, free internet ..etc...

The bed was firm but not rock hard and we had a most comfortable sleep with an airconditioning system that could be adjusted to suit our preferences(cold).

Next door to a shopping mall which is very convenient.

Looks a little dated from the outside, but once inside, provides ample relief from the scorching penang sun.

Nice lap pool on the 4th floor, clean and uncrowded.

Rooms were of good size (stayed in standard room), bed was firm, toilet had a tub as well.

Location was above average. Near the famous Penang rd Chendol and assam laksa, walking distance to the chulia street wanton mee. :) Right next to Prangin mall where decent bargains can be found (got me a pair of ray ban aviators for S$160)

Stayed in a standard room with a lovely view accross Georgetown. This hotel is fantastic value for money. The rooms are so big and bed is really comfortable. The service people were lovely and friendly albeit requiring the odd prompt. Havig said that, this is far above anything else around for this price.

Location is a bit of an issue, it's right outside the most inhospitable traffic laden intersection in Penang. We worked out a clever way to bypass the traffic and get to a lovely restaurant type food/shopping area nearby. Happy to send details if anyone wants to know. Jalan mcAlister is on the other side of the massive intersection, so if you're game to cross, there's good hawker stalls in the evening and my favourite vegetarian restaurant "lily's vegetarian kitchen" on the first turn to the right signposted "Jalan sehala". Georgetown isn't the easiest city to negotiate as a pedestrian but if you work your way to chinatown, it's really not that far either.

The swimming pool was great for our 3 yr old, nothing flash, but clean and with plenty of comfortable deckchairs for us.

We didn't eat in the restaurant, but the room service was cheap and really good food too.

Will stay at traders next time for sure.

We go to Penang yearly for the last 6yrs. Stayed at the Beach hotels on most of our visits, and this is the 2nd time we are staying in town (1st time was in Bayview George Town).

Chose Traders because 1) I get corporate rate; 2) its excellent location to explore George Town (even by foot); 3) its brand (Traders = service); 4) there's free shuttle to Shangrila & Golden Sands, just in case we wanted to spend a day at the beach.

It was the school holidays when we went, and the reservation lady actually switched me to a school holidays promo for cheaper rate; an extra bed was thrown in free of charge, which I thought was extremely nice.

The room clean, although crammed (but something I had already anticipated). We had a King bed + a single; with 2 young kids, the room becomes a bit crowded. My only complain.

Love the breakfast, extremely good variety, and the food served was of quality. Even on a very busy day, the food got empty out quickly but also got replenished equally quick.

My children loved the pool, although small, it was good enough for them; And they liked the entertainment at the Lobby Louge; the band performing was very good with children, so my girls kept wanting to go back to watch them sing.

Around the hotel, there's lots of eating places, lots to see, and lots of shopping around.

We will definitely stay in Traders if we come to Penang again and decided to stay in town.

After review other travelers' tips, I chose Traders for its location; because Penang is famous for its food and Asian heritage.

I have a local friend their, so when I arrived he took me around the city. The area Traders located was a popular spot maybe 10 yrs ago. There are still plenty nice good and some shopping places around, plus it very close to the world heritage sites.

If you are after more modern life, probably G Hotel or Ever Green is best for location; and lots of food around them as well. Penang has a really poor public transport system. Hire a car or take cab is my advice. so be careful in choosing the hotel locations.

I stayed in Traders for two nights. The experience was excellent. Although too some time for check in (because a group of airline crews were before us), the staff were very nice and friendly.

I agree with others the hotel furniture are shabby, but that's what you paid for. G Hotel is nice and modern, but costs heaps more. Traders offers free internet, got gym and swimming pool, business center ... I think its a pretty good one.
