Stayed over the new year period for 5 nights . We upgraded for the club rooms on the 16th floor . There was buffet breakfast and drinks and canapés on offer in the evening . Excellent service from the staff.

Room Tip: We had 2 kids staying in the same room ( 6 and 5 yrs ) initially we were told that we needed 2 rooms...

We stayed here for 3 nights, hotel in a great central location, close to shops, restaurants, and downtown sightseeing locations. Staff all very nice and helpful. We opted for the Traders Club when we checked in, which gave us access to the cocktail hour. Actually 2 hours of unlimited bar and snacks...we ate dinner here one night, help your self to wine, beer and spirits, and hot and cold snacks, including sushi, cheese and crackers, cakes, sandwiches, satay, noodle dishes etc. It also gave us access thru the day to soft drinks, tea/coffee and snacks. After being charged 51 RM for two beers one day at the bar, we realized what a great deal this was. Room was clean, and well stocked with free water, mini bar, and toiletries. Complimentary wifi. Pool clean, uncrowded, attendant quickly set up loungers with fresh towels and brought us water. The only downside for us, was the free shuttle to their sister hotel at Golden Sands. When we tried to schedule this one day, we were told it was already fully booked for that day, and the first shuttle for the next day, so if you want to go to the beach area for the day, reserve in advance. We would stay here again, and recommend it to others.

We had a very nice room. We were moved due to the building workers working all through the night across the road (building/working all night is actually illegal!). Good amnesties with the Club Room, etc. Pool nice/warm; was crowed as it was holidays, but nice to see so many people using the facilities.
Parking available. Good location to walk to old historic Georgetown, and a mall (2) next door for shopping, eating. Can walk or taxi everywhere.

Room Tip: don't get near the construction site on main road if you are a light sleeper.

Very conveniently located right next to the kumtar tower, in George Town so that all site seeing are just few minutes drive. You can take free shuttle from the kumtar tower or just walk around , hotel also offers free shuttle bus to gold sand shangrila resort where you can enjoy beach and facilities free and can get bills charged to Traders. Love this hotel

Just one word, Bad customer service from the Traders Club lounge receptionist during check in. Tried to downgrade me but to no avail. Really Bad. Not recommended to stay besides its convenience to the city.

The reason I keep coming back here is that they get it so right.
The staff are lovely, the rooms are comfortable and the club two floors are worth the additional cost.
I had vowed never to stay in another Traders Hotel after a disastrous stay in Yangon last year but I am glad to be here to enjoy everything about this hotel.
I wish the manager of the Yangon Traders could come here and do an apprenticeship to learn how to run a hotel!

The hotel is well located in Georgetown. It will be my choice hotel if....
1. We were not greeted by a badly stained cushion on our bed as we entered
2. The Sofa doesn't generate a mini dust storm when my daughter pat it
3. There wasn't daily housekeeping misses, e.g. trash bin not emptied, toiletries or towels not replenished; I have 2 adjoining rooms and on one day, the housekeeper cleaned one and missed the other
I suspect that the hotel does not have a good system to help the housekeeper who appeared to work very hard.

If you are considering Traders Penang after being dazzled by another Traders like I was in KL, brace yourself for disappointment. The rooms definitely looked much better on the hotel website. The rooms are small for Malaysia standard. The standard rooms have old fashion "big backside" TV with grainy pictures and limited channels. While some staff are friendly, service is below par.
