Prangin Mall is quite interesting loads of stalls and small boutiques. aslo lots of fakes.
There is a pharmacy(?Watsons) also supermarket, money changers and brilliant optician at Vision First, on ? 1st floor. Patrick Ong provides an excellent service. There is a PARKSON store.
All in all great and varied shopping, with some unusual clothes for men and women and jewellry.
there is a good supply of transport outside, taxi, cyclo, bus and the free CAT bus.
shop till u drop!

“Compact but plentiful”
Reviewed February 3, 2012

Pragin Mall, located in the heart of bustling Georgetown, is next to the old KOMTAR (which is more a government office with an outdated shopping arcade which has seen its heydays!). It is also located within walking distance to a new shopping mall called 1st Avenue.

Pragin Mall has been around for many years now but the crowd is still there. At the lobby side, you get one whole area exclusive to mobile phones. You can choose from all the different brands and the various service providers. As with new phones, you will also find phone repair service shops along the ground floor area. There are altogether about 5 - 6 levels in this shopping mall. Here you can find practically almost everything under the sun. The middle floors usually deals with clothings, shoes, food, etc while the upper floors are dealing with DVDs, computer stuff, etc. If you are into movies, this is where you should go. The "copies" are cheap and clear. You need to ask the sales person if the film is clear/good and they will be very upfront with you before you purchase. Sometimes, you may need to wait around while they get the stock for you!! The highest floor houses a cineplex and some gaming arcade.

Most shops have a strict "no bargain" policy but hey, doesn't hurt to try. They will tell you politely that the shop has a "fixed price" policy (ie. no bargaining) and for the others, if they really want your business, they don't mind meeting your offers. Overall, the shops do carry some of the latest Hong Kong or Korean fashions and the prices are quite reasonable, as compared to the bigger mallls like 1st Avenue or Queensbay Mall or Gurney!

“great shopping. Cheap prices”
Reviewed December 27, 2011

As a frequent visitor to Penang, I am very familiar with places to shop. There are the beaitoful shopping centres like Queensbay Mall and Guerney Plaza, but for me Prangin Mall is the best. Locals shop there and the prices are cheap. If you are upto a size 12 in dresses and upto an 8 in a shoe, this place is paradise. There are 6 floors that go on forever and there is virtually nothing you can't get. Jrewellery.electronics, phones and phone cards, dresses, beauty products, hairdresses, shoes and food. The list goes on. Shoes that would cost $150 in Australia can be purchased for aaround $30. The beauty of this place is that it is right opposite the bus depot, where you catch the bus back to Batu Ferringhi where most tourists stay. If you are going from Batu Ferringhi, catch the 101 bus, pay RM2,70 and get off at Komtar- about 45 minutes ride. The bus stops at a set of pedestrian lights. Cross there to the other side and walk left and take the first street right. Walk upto the next intersection and look across diagonally and you will see a set od steps and a small McDonalds store(which only sells ice creams). Go up the steps and you are in Prangin Mall. Don't go much before 11am as the shops don't start opening until then/ 12 noon is better but it is open till late at night. The first floor is full of shoe stores- shoe heaven if you have the right siz e foot. There is a wheelchair ramp but it is not at this entrance but at the rear of the store.
