“Best hostel I have stayed at!”
Reviewed February 14, 2012

Fabulous ! Had a great stay here. Stayed in the 4 bedroom dorm with all females (I'm female!), and it was cozy, 4 little cubicles, you feel like you're sleeping in a big cupboard. A small window at the head, and big heavy curtains so you can close off to the world, and make it all dark for a midday snooze to escape the heat.
A plug, private room light, and a bathroom style cupboard beside you. Lockers outside the room, as well as a cupboard in communal space that you can also lock with your own padlock.
A/c in the 4 bedroom dorms as well, makes its worth the 2 extra ringgit than the sleeps 10 non a/c dorms.
Is 30Rg a night with a 20Rg deposit, so that you return the towel etc ..
Breakfast included, tea, coffee, as much toast as you can fill your face with and they rotate the brekky every morning (omelete, french toast, scrambled eggs).
Food is overpriced, but the spicy chicken pizza was amazing !! we shared it one night - yum !
Watch out for Charlie - he's awesome, he loves everyone, he sings, he tries to remember your name, he greets you everytime he sees you, and has great english, and will advise you on anything !!
Enjoy the hostel ... bring your earplugs ... the music downstairs is loud well into the night !

Room Tip: Bring your own padlock and earplugs !!

Loved the capsule-style bed in the dorm. Really appreciated the privacy. It also had a mirror, 2 power outlets, and a light. Staff were okay, a bit of communication problem with the english. Nice location in the middle of Georgetown. Hot showers, free wifi, it's got the basics.

However the bar gets quite a bit noisy at night especially with the loud music and the walls of the dorms aren't very soundproof. There're also quite a few mosquitos flying around the dorms and the common area at night so be careful.

Very clean And friendly place. Good location. The only problem was the staff was not good at English at all other than the womAn who ran it who wasn't always there! When ordering food we had total confusion and also even checking in was a struggle because of the lack of understanding! Other than that the staff are very friendly and welcoming and they do try to help you in any way they can! Also it says there is no curfew but they do lock the doors at night which is awkward when you need to get back in.. The kl branch is far better!!

This is the best hostel ever!! The people ( Paul, Charlie and the crew) are very friendly, helpful and bring a lot of animation! Especially Charlie with his songs! I stayed here much longer then I planned! The atmosphere is very familiar! Lot better then the reggae hostels in Kuala Lumpur!! I just went all the way to book a room in the Mansion and they were very posh! Nothing compared to Penang!! Every morning another breakfast and you can eat as much toast as you want! They help you with tours and buses free of charge! The dorm beds are like little private rooms! Toilets and bathroom are very clean and the shower is amazing! I'm traveling almost 7 months through Asia know and this hostel gets my Golden medal! This is a great meeting place!!! Highly recommended!! The location is also very good! Right next to the food stalls with amazing and very cheap food!

Room Tip: Choose the 4 bed dorms! Only 2 RM more but worth it!

We stayed here for 3 nights. The location in Chinatown is good and the facilities new and clean with free wifi, although not available in the rooms. Overall service was ok but I wouldnt say great, although some staff were very friendly the owner was less so which was a little disappointing, also the price of drinks is pretty expensive and overall the hostel is a little on the pricy side for what it is. There is quite a party vibe and the music continues into the small hours if you are a light sleeper - take ear plugs. Overall we were satisfied with our stay but would probably look elsewhere when we return to Penang.

Having stayed in at least 100 hostels across the world this is easily among the top 5. The dorms are fantastic with "pods" instead of creaky bunks, complete with outlets, reading lights and curtains that make them dark as night during the day. It's not the cheapest option in town, but it's the nicest in the price range. As yellowboxfish10 said, drinks/food are western tourist priced, but you can walk around the corner to any of the cheap, delicious, restaurants if you want.

Room Tip: Get in the back, the bar is quite loud at night.

Yes it's location is good but I found it a little expensive for what it is.
Breakfast was poor, eggs well undercooked and 7 ringit for a glass of unfizzy sprite not even a can was a bit over priced.
Won't be using their KL one
