We had a wonderful time in Georgetown, albeit too short. The hotel is all that previous trip advisor reviews have said. The decor is tasteful and the renovation nicely done. The rooms are a good size, very relaxing and the nespresso machine and chocolate cake a nice touch. Beds are super comfy and breakfast has a big choice and makes a great start to the day. All the staff and the owners make the stay fabulous. Nothing is too much trouble, their enthusiasm is infectious. A great place to stay - we felt totally spoilt. We will be back for a longer stay.

(Oh and the location is central - perfect to explore the town)

We stayed at the Calligraphy room for 3 nights in October. The room is absolutely charming. It is unique and it has all the amenities to make your stay comfortable. The room is spacious. The bathroom is well equipped. The bed is very big and comfortable. We did not have any problem with the street noise at night. The iced tea in the fridge is a delight after a day in the hot weather.

The location of the hotel is excellent. You could walk to all the places of interest easily.

The hosts and the whole team of staff were amazing. Everyone greeted you with a smile whenever they saw you and they were always eager to help in order to make your stay unforgettable. They were geninuely interested in knowing your plan of the day and how your day went. Do not hesitate to ask the hosts for any advice or recommendation of places to see and to eat.

The breakfast served in the restaurant was delicious and the choice was adequate. We loved the yogurt and the egg florentine. However, it would be good if there is a choice of a room rate including or excluding breakfast as there are plenty of food you could try in Penang. The hotel is just 5-10 minutes away from the Chowrasta market where you could find lots of coffee shops and street stalls to sample the local dishes.

The Italian restaurant was temporarily closed for dinner during our stay but the hosts might be able to arrange a dinner for you if you inform them in advance. So make sure to check with the hosts if the restaurant is open for dinner if you intend to eat there.

Do not forget to ask the staff to help you with transporting your heavy luggages up and down the floors using the rope system. It's very practical and you do not have to carry them up the stairs by yourself.

You will not regret choosing the Campbell House for your stay in Penang. Every corner of the hotel is stylishly decorated and the staff cannot be more friendly. It would truly be a unique experience to highlight your trip.

Room Tip: We recommend any room on the second floor where you could see the timber roof structure that really...

For my maiden Penang trip last week i stayed 4 nights over at Campbell House. The warm hospitality provided by Nardya & Roberto, Daniele, Daniel, Casandra and all other Campbell house team members is worth my recommendation here.

The stay at Campbell House has been wonderful - the ideal location, clean environment, and good coffees (very important for me!).
i smile each time i recall me cycling back to Campbell House to cool down or for a caffeine fix, after sight seeing Georgetown and vintage finds in the hot weather.

i will certainly come back to Penang and Campbell House again.

The genuinely warm welcome, professional service and quite extraordinary attention to detail in making our stay both a memorable and relaxing experience, was seam less .
The century old building, having been painstakingly and sympathetically restored, to it's former, character filled glory, is further enhanced by the discreet addition of the trappings of modernity, required for true comfort, and with the decor imaginatively conjoining antiquity with luxury and flair.
BUT THERE'S MORE....................
Breakfast served until midday, Plumped pillows, homemade chilled lemon tea, and delectible fridge treats , ( whether you deserved them or not ),are the order of the day at Campbell House. A tough regime that could very easily be habit forming, in similar vein to the fragrant toileteries provided, of which the aromatic oil , really does feel essential.
A wonderful experience as opposed to a mere stay ................ Lucky old Georgetown .!!

I absolutely adored this hotel. As we walked into the hotel,Daniel, the receptionist quickly greeted us with a big smile and a very warm welcome. This hotel is a heritage hotel and it used to be a brothel which was then left abandoned and then converted into a hotel, While checking in, we were served the most refreshing lemon tea. The hotel had only 11 rooms which made us feel more like we were coming home. It had only three floors, no elevator but a very efficient staff who tied our luggage to a pulley and then pulled up by a very thick rope. As Daniel walked us through the map and attractions of Penang, where to go and where to it, clearly, he was very passionate about what he was doing. Anything you ask, he can help you with, so as with the other staff in the hotel. We were then taken to our rooms. Lo and behold, I never thought it would take me aback, with mouth opened, we were so amazed on how wonderful the room was. The mini bar did not have expensive chocolates or what nots, but a tall pitcher of cold lemon tea, and at night they put a surprise inside for you-absolutely free!!! On top of the bar was coffee with milk and sugar, or choice of tea.
Since we did a lot of walking, we like to go back to the hotel to freshen up. The bathroom was so nice, not luxurious, but really functional with a very nice rain shower that actually worked. The water was so strong, that it felt more like we were being massaged.
As breakfast came, anticipation on what more can this small hotel offer? They didn't have the usual buffet breakfast that big hotels offer-very impersonal. Instead, we were waited upon by a very personable staff. First there were fruits served, then came coffee, fresh fruit juice, tea, then the breads and the jams came, then the choices of eggs (yummy!), porridge, oatmeal.....the list is endless, but our stomachs couldn't take anymore as we were supposed to go on a food tour!
This hotel is a bargain considering the location, the service it offered, the treatment you get. After staying here, we have decided to stay in small boutique hotels rather than big hotel chains.

Room Tip: All the rooms are unique. We stayed at the silver leaf and it was really beautiful and you wouldn...

Believe all the other reviews, it is all true! Our family of 4 spent 3 nights in Sari and Rose rooms. The rooms were tastefully decorated and with all the cleanliness and comforts needed. The location was excellent, right in the Center within walking distance to the attractions in Georgetown. And we had 2 wonderful dinners at the Italian restaurant in the hotel, and Mario the chef makes great Authentic Italian Pizzas! But the real gem of Campbell house is Nardya, Roberto, Daniel, and all the staff. They took good care of our family and made great recommendations on what to see and where to eat in Penang. ( There is a wonderful Chicken Rice shop, Dim Sum shop, and Cintra Food Corner Hokkien Dumpling Shop near the hotel ) And Roberto gave us good advice on travelling around in Italy, as we will be on our 20th wedding anniversary trip to Italy in April 2013. We will never stay at any other hotel in Penang! Nardya Roberto Daniel Mario and all the staff at Campbell house Thank you for your kindness! See you:). From Arisa and Family

Room Tip: All rooms are very beautiful:)

I didn't stay here. I just need to take a quick break when I stand in front of Campbell House. I was greeted by 2 staffs with a very friendly tone. It was delightful to have an utmost polite english conversation with them. Their service is great, they know what you need and you'll always get what you want. I wasn't expecting this level of service to a non-guest. I belief this is a true spirit of Malaysian opportunity. (i rated the room from suggestion of a friend)
