“Fantastic!”
Reviewed October 14, 2012

We had a fantastic time staying at Campbell House. Nardya, Roberto and the team were all very friendly and helpful. We stayed in the Calligraphy room which was outstanding - very spacious with a beautiful shower room. The attention to detail in this hotel, from the furnishings to the service is amazing. The little extras make the experience even more special - homemade iced lemon tea always topped up in the fridge, little treats such as biscuits and banana cake, and a lovely coffee machine. Breakfast was fantastic, really sets you up for the day and service at beakfast was very efficient and friendly. Nardya is very attentive and has great local knowledge. She recommended amazing restaurants, places to visit and a great day at Penang national park. The location of Campbell House is great, it is in the perfect location for exploring Georgetown, its lively, exciting mix of cultures and places of interest. We also stayed at the E&O as part of our trip, and enjoyed Campbell House equally as much - it is unique. Nardya, Roberto and the team should be very proud of what they have achieved and the service they all provide. Without exception they all clearly aim to make your stay special. We recommend Campbell House to anyone looking for somewhere to stay in Georgetown, and would definately stay there again, without hesitation.

If you are looking for a hotel which provides Customer Delight and Amazing service, then this is the place for you. Campbell House is located in the middle of George Town, and is close to all local attractions.

From the moment we stepped into this hotel we were greeted by Nardya and Daniel. They were both fantastic with their knowlege of the local area, and were able to provide us with information on local events that only took place once a month, where to find the local street artist, and which of the many art galleries to explore. We were told about 'must see' attractions and the best local places to eat.

We stayed in the Rose Room and it was absolutely stunning. The hotel is elegant and stylish. Everywhere you go, whether it be the foyer, the common area, your bathroom, or your bedroom , it is full of character and charm.

Apart from the hotel, it was the little touches that made our stay so memorable. The fantastic coffee machine in our room, the yummy lemon ice team in the fridge every day, the turn down service, the little biscuits and cakes before bed, the simple greeting at the foyer, asking 'How was your day?'... all this and more.

I can't wait to come back here on my next trip to Penang. For those who are seeking a hotel full of charm and exceptional customer delight, then this is the place for you.

Enjoy!

Room Tip: There are no lifts in this hotel, so be prepared to walk up/down one or two flights of stairs to you...

I wish all small hotels in Malaysia were as good as this. Great location, beautiful rooms, flawless service. Good free wi-fi.Totally deserving of its high rating. And the in-house Italian restaurant is just as good - clearly popular with walk in Penangites too, so you might want to book a table on weekend nights. They mix a fine mojito.

Room Tip: Stairs to bedrooms, so if you if you have any hip/leg ailments, you might want to request 1st floor...

Excellent location and a building true to Penang's colonial working past. Host were extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast is very good and recommended on its own even if you are not staying here.

From the minute you arrive and receive the warm, informative and professional greeting from Nardya, Roberto and Daniel, you know you have chosen to right place to stay. Nothing is too much trouble and the staff here anticipate your every need. This is by far the best service I have experience in a long time and the restaurant/breakfast was outstanding. The attention to detail in the renovation of this hotel is as obvious as the passion it must have taken to complete and run such a finished and detailed hotel. I have recommended this hotel to my collegues and friends and would stay here again and again.

When I was first planning a weekend in Penang I booked a room at the E&O. Then changed my mind and booked here - am very glad I did. It's in the perfect location to really explore the centre of Penang and its fascinating mix of cultures. It's also a way to experience a little bit of how the houses of Penang must have been in its heyday as a trading port. Beautifully restored, and with all the necessary comforts. Delicious breakfast, good coffee and nice Italian wine - that and near-instant access to a range of hawker street food stalls meant it was, for us, the ideal base to come back to after a hot and humid walk round town. If you are a light sleeper like me you may notice the traffic noise (being slap bang in the middle of Chinatown makes for a lot of buzzy motorcycles scooting past at all hours), so hang on to the ear plugs from the plane if you think it might be an issue. But I would far rather have the buzz of this authentic slice of Malaysia than the rather frosty charms of the E&O.

No pool, miles from the beach and no entertainment for the children - perfect!
Ideally situated in the heart of Georgetown, this is an unbeatable location for exploring this wonderful World Heritage Site. Oozing with character which, considering it's been open less than two years, is a tribute to the owners who have done a great job. Nardya and Roberto also deliver what the large corporate hotels can't hope to provide - a genuine welcome to their guests. We stayed in a variety of hotels on our trip through Malaysia and Singapore, from the 5 star Marina Bay Sands in Singapore and the Sheraton Imperial in KL to a couple of "boutique hotels" such as this gem. If you really want to enjoy Georgetown, this can't be beaten - we'll be back!

Room Tip: We stayed in the "loft" on the second floor which was on two levels - a lounge below and a...
