Clean but dun expect too much on size. Kinda compact due to constructions of Hotel. A very convenient to Street Arts, Rod Iron Arts and Heritage centers of course not to forget Hawker foods, and famous Penang food can easily get here.

Room Tip: If travelling in group and dun mind sharing toilet get cheaper rooms.

I am impressed with its super bright interior design. Clean shared bath room. Fast check-in & check-out. Staff is helpful & friendly. It's a quiet place to stay and walking distance to those famous hawker centres selling delicious local food.
Only 1 drawback: no filtered drinking water provided.

This was by far the best hotel i Stayed in Malaysia.
The rooms were emaculatly clean and white.
Check in and check out was quick. No deposit asked. beds were comfortable.

Only issue was the shower in the ensuite bathroom was exactly over the toilet seat. So you will end up wetting the seat. Other than that it was value for money. There are various buses plying from the main road.

This is a great place.
We stayed in one of the shared bathroom rooms, as it was the only one available. Normally would not do that, but in this place the shared bathroom area is spotless!
The lobby and upstairs landing to this place has more of a upscale hotel feel. The building itself has a lot of history (200yrs old I think). The whole interior has been whitewashed, all white decor in the rooms too.
Staff in this place were great too. Location is fantastic, right in the heart of the old town, and only $20 a night, can't complain at all... except there were a few ants in the room

This is a very nice hotel. The outside is very impressive and the entrance is rather large - a contrast to the rooms which are quite small. The room has just enough room for all your things - although I did not have a large bag. The beds are extremely comfortable. Air con was not amazing - it did get a bit hot at night. Rooms at cleaned everyday and towels replaced - only thing they did not seem to replace was toilet paper so had to ask the reception.

The bathroom - as others have said - is tiny. If you are on the larger side you will probably not fit. There is just enough room to squeeze in between the sink, toilet and wall for a shower. However it is warm and fairly strong.

Great location, right in the middle of all the main sights. The street on the right hand side (when you're walking away from the hotel) does appear to turn into a red light district at night with women standing on the street corners. If you have kids, maybe take them to the left!!

Staff were very friendly and helpful. I would recommend and would happily go back again.

This was a lovely sojourn in perfect Penang at the Chulia for a very good price. The rooms are on the smaller side, but for the rates one can hardly complain. They come with all the facilities you could hope, are spotlessly clean, staff are wonderfully attentive and the beds are extremely comfortable.

One issue concerns the size of the bathroom - it definitely ought to be a little larger. But, overall, I was cock-a-hoop with this auberge which was located excellently among the world heritage sites of Georgetown. The hotel has the appearance and facilities of a five star offering and comes highly recommended.

Great location in Georgetown historical area. Clean large rooms. Value for money but may increase in price once they've finished the renovations. Drawbacks - renovations. Someone walking backwards & forwards above our ceiling until at least 2am. ( did stop after I complained to the guard & he immediately went up to stop them - after a few really loud bangs & furniture scrapings :) . Bathroom became a swimming pool after showering. Wanted to clean room at 8pm when we were lazing on the bed watching Tele???!! Overall helpful friendly staff. Good value.
