Muntri Mews is a very charming boutique hotel that has a very convenient location in Georgetown. A few of the staff really take pride in what they do and also use their initiative to make the stay pleasant for guests. We were allowed to check into our room earlier around 1pm as we arrived early. Immediately after, we were served tea and biscuits/tibits in our room. Such good service was maintained throughout the rest of the trip. Each time we came back to the hotel, one of the staff would serve us a nice refreshing lemonade within seconds of our return. The room - we had suite L on the upper level was very charming. There was separate living area with a nice couch for one to read and watch TV, a very nicely done up bathroom with designer layered tiles, and the bed was always netted, to keep the mosquitos out. Each time we went out during the day, we would return to the room with it being nicely cool - the result of the staff's initiative in making sure the air-conditioning is turned on prior to our return. Though that is somewhat wasteful, it is exceptional service, considering how humid Penang can be. Kudos to the team. The food at Cafe Mews is really good, and just as good as any of the famous streetside food that we had - if you don't feel like taking a taxi out to Jalan MacAlister on a given night, Cafe Mews offers an outstanding option and it isn't even pricey. The desserts are good too, we would highly recommend the Caramelized fried Bananas with Vanilla ice-cream..

If there are any areas that could be improved upon, it would be that the L room, closest to the road, and the cafe, is a little bit noisy in the morning, making it hard for us to sleep in a bit more. Would be a good addition to have more TV channels though it wasn't critical for us. The staff were wonderful, but when they call up taxis' on behalf of guests, would be good if they can help the guests determine fair pricing. Taxis were our main frustrating point in Penang, as most of them refuse to use metered pricing despite obviously required to do so. When we left for the airport, the driver included a 8-9 Ringgit airport surcharge ( this cab used the meter and it was added on the mini-meter before being added back to final fare ) - we paid 56 ringgit to the airport, instead of the 44 we paid from the airport to the hotel. We couldn't find anything on the forums that suggest there is an airport surcharge going to the airport in the middle of the day. This is not the hotel's fault for sure, but perhaps they could help their passengers a bit more on this front, perhaps by pre-negotiating with the taxis.

All in, Muntri Mews is a very nice hotel, and you can walk around Georgetown easily. The service is generally very good, and the staff show high initiative in general, such as allowing for early check-in and late check-out, offering suggestions on where to go, etc. They are just generally very friendly as well. The rooms are very nicely maintained, and offer good space for couples especially who want to chill out. Definitely a nice place to return to.

Room Tip: Room L is above the cafe/near the road and is a bit noisy in the morning from traffic from the main...

The Muntri Mews is one of these places that you don’t want to leave.
One of these rare hotels where you instantly feel at ease.
The staff is kind, hospitable and very attentive.
Certainly a place that I’d recommend!

Stayed at Muntri Mews recently. Great location to explore historic Georgetown. A wonderful oasis fringed by frangipani trees on a charming street lined with heritage terraces. The staff were amazing & couldn't be more accommodating. My twin room was spacious with a lovely canopy bed. The cafe food was delicious with an authentic local menu, highly recommended. If you're looking for a small intimate place to stay to explore Georgetown, couldn't recommend this place more. Special thanks to Brian & Sara for helping us with just about everything. Will be back for sure. Karen from KL

A beautiful and cozy place to stay. Location is great and the staff were very hospitable and courteous. They were kind enough to scatter rose petals on the bed and greet us with chilled cincau drink, hot chinese tea, warm towels and some tidbits. After 4 hours of driving, I find these small gestures to be very welcoming.

If you're driving there, finding a parking spot may pose as a problem. However the staff was kind enough to help us carry our luggage during check-in and check-out. The hotel itself is slightly hidden but you can always call the hotel and they will provide direction. Love the quiet charm despite being situated right in the heart of Penang.

Had a great stay with fast wifi, comfy bed, hot showers and cable TV. Very recommended.

Room Tip: Get a room on the ground floor if you're not keen on climbing a flight of stairs upon arrival.

This is my 2nd time to visit Penang, I intentionally tried different heritage hotels to earn different experience from the lovely George Town. Muntri Mews has a team of nice crew, very friendly service. The place is clean. The cozy & homely restaurant downstairs was very nice too. I particularly appreciate the freshly cooked breakfast. The overall experience was good.

Yet there're some improvement areas in the room. I booked a King Suite, but didn't expect a King Suite hasn't got a fridge and bath tub in room. The lighting was a bit too deem, it's hard to do reading in the room even during day time with windows opened. Of course we can read outside the room (with day light) sitting on the bench, but it was a bit too hot in the afternoon while the mosquitoes were chasing after us. Because it hasn't got a fridge, I can't chill my fruits or drinks that I bought from the street but don't serve in the hotel. Although we could use the fridge in the hotel (office or cafe), it wouldn't be convenient for impulsive occasions. The spacious bathroom should be enough to hold a 2-in-1 (bath tub + shower head) facility; yet I could appreciate it may help to save water wastage from guests by not equipping a tub. These improvement areas don't bother me too much, I still have happy experience at Muntri Mews. Just that it couldn't earn higher rating compare to other place I stayed in Penang with similar price.
