We stayed here for 3 nights, the place is clean and comfortable, even the common bathrooms are nice. Its located in the middle of town, but we didn't experience any noise at night. There's laundry service, but you can find it cheaper on the street to the right. I wouldn't hesitate to come back

Perfect accommodation for a guest house. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms were very clean and had both A/C and a fan and a safe. The bathrooms are shared but were very clean and have hot water. It's in a great location, right next to little India. Highly recommended if you don't need anything fancy! I went there for a visa run so it was perfect just for two nights. Thanks for a lovely stay!!!

When I walked in to the dining/reception area and started having a look around, one of the guests who was having his dinner caught my attention and recommended the place highly. Always a good sign.
I stayed two nights, May 2014. The location is excellent, plenty to do and see in the nearby area. The guest house rents motorbikes by the day as well.

The rooms were RM30 for fan, RM45 for A/C. I chose one of the fan rooms upstairs. Perfectly happy with my choice. The fan was excellent, there's a small desk in the room, a strong set of wall hooks, nice working safe (easily holds a 13" laptop+), and the double bed was extremely comfortable.

The place is worn, but in a way that can easily be considered charming, because the staff have taken care of the important details. Meaning: there's a bit of paint chipped here and there, and some frayed edges in the bathroom area, but the beds and towels and rooms are perfectly clean, the fans and A/C are in excellent working condition and quiet, the showers work smoothly, with good water pressure and heat if you want it, and the dining area is well-kept.

The staff were friendly and helpful, no issues there. The food was fine, at good prices, too (RM4-RM7 for everything from beans-on-toast to local curries and soups, RM3 for fresh squeezed juices). Laundry service is available for RM5/Kg. I decided to wash everything in my whole bag, which was RM10, and handed to me in a sealed bag as soon as I walked back inside from sightseeing; a nice touch.

The only qualms about the place are pertinent to the country/culture itself, therefore I can't hold it against the guest house. As one other reviewer mentioned, there is a mosque nearby (just across the road), and calls to prayer can be quite loud. I heard the call at 5:50 a.m. just once on the two nights I stayed, but I was able to fall right back asleep. The first night, however, around 19:30, there was a speech on the same loudspeakers, volume cranked up to blaring maximum, which lasted two hours. I enjoy the call to prayer, but the speech was a bit bracing and grating, if only for the sheer intensity of the volume level. After a while I stuck in headphones and listened to some music a little louder than I might normally do.
The other point was the cigarette smoking. I'm an on-and-off smoker myself, usually off, but I feel a bit trapped and upset when I'm indoors with people smoking. However, this is another feature that comes with the territory. Even in the air conditioned mall there are plenty of people hanging out, smoking inside -- phone repair vendors, men waiting for their ladies outside of shoe shops. So, the guest house does allow smoking in the reception/dining area, but at the end of the day it is "essentially" outdoors, and the wall fans are constantly running, so it's not a big deal.

One other quick point, for those with weak knees: the two downstairs rooms are A/C, and the upstairs rooms are fan. But the stairs themselves are quite steep, with large gaps between. Wasn't an issue for me, but something to consider.

Room Tip: room 7, upstairs, is farthest from the street (probably the quietest fan room)

This place is a nice enough place to stay. Not fancy (cold showers, a bath towel for bedding) but with the aircon I still got a reasonable night's sleep in a dorm which had a personal safe for my belongings.

Now obviously they can't help the location of their hostel but it was somewhat irritating to be woken up at 5:55am every morning by the extremely loud call to the prayer from the mosque opposite. The wifi was a bit rubbish as well.

Having said that the service was excellent and it was very good value for money.

So 3 stars might be a bit harsh, but 4 would be way too generous.

Incidently I would choose this place over the Banana Hostel (which is your alternative on Lebuh Chulia) everytime. We had a quick look round and it resembled a Soviet re-education camp with not all that passive but very aggressive notices all over the wall YOU ARE A THIEF IF YOU USE THE WIFI FOR FREE and NEVER TOUCH THE FRIDGE!

For only 33RM a night, we got a private fan room which was nice, clean and comfy. The bathrooms are shared but there are plenty for the number of guests.. and they were very spacious and kept sparkling clean! Nice cafe downstairs where you can buy breakfast for a reasonable price and other food if you like. We spent around 12RM on breakfast for 2 people so not too bad! Laundry can be done here as well for only 5RM per kilo (and it is done very nicely too!). Thai visas and transport can all be arranged at the guesthouse too.
The staff were very helpful and thoughtful.
Would definitely come back here :)

Room Tip: Book in advance as the cheap rooms are always in demand!!!!

We got a basic private fan room for 2 persons here, for 33 Myr a night - this was the cheapest place we found in the area, and it's close to the bus stops, 7/11, a handful of bars and MANY good and cheap places to eat - don't miss out on the Old Trafford burgers, and the fries, at the little stall just across the street from 7/11. Theres cheap food on the guesthouse aswell. Good wifi!
