We had a short but wonderful stay at the Yeng Keng Hotel. We experienced an online booking snafu (not the fault of the hotel) and the room we thought we had booked was not available, but the staff very quickly found us alternate accomodations.
Yeng Keng is a heritage site that was very recently renovated and reopened. We were very impressed at the care taken to research and restore the building, and the manager also took the time to give us a detailed tour, discuss the building's history and recent renovation. The common areas are beautifully furnished with antique and vintage furniture and art, and the grounds and pool area are beautifully landscaped. We enjoyed a delicious local breakfast each morning that featured Malaysian and Western goodies (scones, eggs, roti, curry, bee hoon, nasi lemak, dim sum, etc--the items differed each day).
Yeng Keng Hotel is in the heart of Georgetown, and we were able to walk to a variety of interesting place (e.g. LIttle India, mosques, Chinese temples/kongsi, galleries, colonial sites etc), not to mention numerous restaurants and shops. The staff also helped us with transportation and gave excellent restaurant advice. We hope to visit Penang again soon and hope to stay for a longer time at the Yeng Keng Hotel.

We just stayed at this newly, completely rebuilt old Chinese house for 3 nights. The room is nicely and tastefully styled. The bathroom is absolutely modern (large douche). We had the swimming pool always for us. The breakfast and drinks can be taken at a spacious courtyard in front of the hotel. It is a very peaceful and comfortable location coming back from the busy, vibrant city. The breakfast is excellent as they bring in hawker food - every day something else- on top of the typical Western Food. Alltogether an exellent hotel.

The staff at this lovely new hotel went out of their way to help us. Very friendly, and nothing was too much trouble, The triple room was big enough for the three of us. The public areas are lovely for relaxing in, and the hotel's location puts you right in the centre of everything. Lovely breakfasts included in the price, and unlimited free internet. Big and quiet pool. Considering the hotel is in the noisiest part of town, its very peaceful as its set back from the road.

Excellent service from front desk to the bar staff. Staffs very friendly and helpful especially during dinner and breakfast. We stayed at Mansion room. Even though our room is next to the reception counter, we did not hear any noise at all! The room is a bit small compared to a normal hotel room (its used to be old hotel, so its understandable). It's nicely decorated and very cozy! You should go there to experience it yourself. Definitely worth the money. We will come back to Yeng Keng next time. Thanks!

Can't add much to what the previous reviewer said, but we actually extended our stay in Penang just to be able to have another day at the Yeng Keng. The staff is sincere and flawlessly gracious. Martin seemed to adopt us and brought local specialty food in for us from his home neighborhood.
There is an historical richness that they have retained in their renovation that is deeply satisfying.
My only complaint would be the sound of a large air con generator that is right next to the fabulous pool. But Malaysia needs A/C so that's that. Great free high speed internet, and as stated before, the pool is amazing, the overall color scheme is dazzling.
