absolutely enjoy the stay!
This was my second stay in the old penang guesthouse!
Old penang guesthouse is part of the reason for my second trip to the beautiful Penang Island.

- excellent service, friendly and really helpful staffs. They would recommend places to visit, the routes or some of the local events happening in the island. They also have a driver if u do not wish to take the public transport.
- female dorm - small and clean, with two bunk bed and lockers, but it has no windows.
- triple room - big and clean, with a queen bed and a single bed, has windows and a clothes rack. Comfy beds. As there were four of us, we added one extra mattress in the room.
- very clean toilets and shower rooms
- Walking distance to 7-eleven, mural paintings, street food, bars, bus stops...etc

super cozy and provides good backpacking experience!
would definitely come back again in the future.

Room Tip: the female dorm has no windows. sometimes noise from the street is audible from the triple room. remember to book earlier!

Extremely friendly staff and a very special atmosphere in an old colonial building. I loved the high ceilings and wooden floors. The rooms are very clean, especially the double rooms provide a lot of comfort. The hostel is conveniently located in the heart of georgetown.it's lovely to meet other travelers there and to sit in front of the hostel to have a chat.cosy and quiet!!!

Stayed 3 nights in the 4-bed female dorm upstairs and was happy with the bed, free breakfast, bathrooms (shared), wifi, location and ambiance. All good value for the price paid. However, I was not counting on the bed bugs. I went back to Singapore with numerous (20-30) bites on my legs and arms. Thankfully I didn't bring any back. So I would tentatively recommend the place, contingent on there not being any more bed bugs.

My friend and I arrived on a very hot afternoon and were immediately very impressed with the guesthouse. The location is fantastic and the building is beautiful. It has been looked after well and felt more like a hotel than a guesthouse/hostel. The staff are lovely and extremely helpful when it comes to information about the town/transport etc. We also liked the fact that it was a real mix of guests-some backpackers, families, older travellers and single travellers. Maybe not the place if you are looking for wild parties, but those opportunities are also not too far away. For the price, you couldn't really ask for much more, especially since a breakfast of toast and fruit is included, as well as unlimited tea and coffee.
Down the road on Stewart 'lane', if you turn left, there is a nice little bar, and on Love Lane itself is a very cool gallery selling some nice prints and handmade items, but it's only open after 5pm. Also we found a woman on Lebuh Carnavon (very close to the corner with Lebuh Kimberly) who sells absolutely delicious pastry goodies from a little stand on the street- they were some of the best things we ate there. Try and find her-she's great!

I stayed for 2 nights in the 12 bedroom dormitory. I had good sleep there since everybody keep their noise low, and they have the quite time. Unfortunately the room is perfectly enclosed so no light come from the outside, so every time looks like night in the room, and I ended up woke up late every morning.
unlike other dormitory hostels I ever been, they give towel for guest, which is very helpful. The bathrooms are clean (there are more toilet in the upper floor). the staffs are helpfull. the breakfast just like any other backpacker hostels, but too bad the tea and coffee only availlable during breakfast.
there are locker provided for every guests, but remember to bring your own lock
