“Bad resort and Service”
Reviewed May 17, 2011

I went there with my family and friends...first they will ask you for a refundable deposit RM100.We stay in a quad room with 2 queen beds and 1 single bed...Total all of us is 7 pax..however we used to go to other hotels and if we make to 7 pax in a room for 5 pax there should be no problem...but this hotel is relly strict as it is a 5 star hotel when we check out they said that the security guard saw us with 7 people and the hotel receptionist said we have to take your deposit bacause you have exceed 5 pax..the question is why didnt she asked me that night that we cannont stay 7 pax in that room and asked me to pay extra money to get extra matress/bed because the security see us with 7 people...although we have pay the breakfast for the extra two but she still refused to give back the deposit..they are like a silent thief who stole people's money..finally i want to speak to the hotel manager but he/she is not in on that day and i asked them to call me back later but untill now nobody is calling me..

i would suggest you not to go there especially with family...the breakfast is RM 15 but the choice was very-very limited. There's only fried mee hoon, roti canai, baked bean, sausage, mashed potato,2 kuih, 2 cakes, 2 fruits, eggs and butter kaya roti bakar...they rated their hotel as 3 star but for me is no star or maybe 1 star...if i still didnt get any call from them i want to report this matter to the pelancongan department...for me the money is not the matter but their attitude, service and inform the guest of anything not hide them and blame the guest.......total we pay is RM290+RM100 +RM 30=RM420 for that night only. im really not happy and i dont want to come to the hotel anymore or suggest the hotel to anybody..i have went to teluk dalam resort and it's really nice if i know this would happen i would prefer to go to teluk nipah or teluk dalam resort.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your comments. I've conducted an investigation on this matter and following is our finding:
1. Guest have admitted additional person into the room without the knowledge of the resort. It is serious breach of our term’s and condition. The resort has responsibility to other paying guest and the guest's action has put the resort and all other guests at risk.
2. Breakfast is complimentary for all our guest. The guest bought additional breakfast voucher from the restaurant at RM15 only. I believe the guest deliberately purchased the voucher from the restaurant and not the reception as to avoid detection. The cost of breakfast voucher at the reception is RM10 only. Based on guest's own review, I believe the food choice is more the sufficient for RM15 as our breakfast is all you can eat buffet. There will be almost 15 choice of food items in the buffet and this items are varied everyday so as to provide variety for the guests.
3. We do not have any objection for the guest to lodge a complain with the pelancongan department.
4. No resort will allow any number of guests to a room.
5. The guest was told of this during check out and there were no issues raised by the guest.
The resort prides itself for its service and always goes the extra mile to ensure our guests comfort and well being are not compromised. All the above could have been avoided if the guest would have been honest and complied with our rule and regulation. I’m sure the guest will agree that unauthorized person will deprive other guests of his or her rights to use the resort facilities and poses a serious security risk.
Everything said and done, we at Pangkor Sandy Beach Resort are truly sorry that the guest was disappointed of her stay. We will endeavour further to improve our services.
Regards

Nice small resort with comfy clean rooms, decent pricing, clean swimming pool, very good location and next to Pasir Bogak beach. Rooms have small fridge, AC, hair dryer, electric kettle, LCD TV as basic facilities. Hotel staff is also very customer friendly.
Being vegetarians, Owner of the resort got a veggie dish done for us in complimentary breakfast on both the days which was very thoughtfull of him. This was aside from other veg dishes like bread butter, cornflakes, baked beans, cakes, fresh fruits and juice, Roti Canai. there are many other dishes available in breakfast like sausages, eggs etc. Break fast was quite hearty and they serve you adjacent to the sea beach.
Lunch and Dinner are also available at the resort.
Hotel Reception will guide you for water sports on the beach and getting the bike on rent to roam around the island.
There are shops nearby(walking distance) to make day to day purchases and to take bikes on rent.

Room Tip: handover keys for room cleaning

This is a new resort and "uncle" the general manager keeps it in top order. The staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast is excellent and Rajeesh, the chef, made sure that I got at least one vegetarian option everyday which I enjoyed whilst watching the Hornbills cavort around the outside dining area.
It is right on the beach and 15 mins walk or a 10 Ringitt taxi fare to the township of Pangkor.
There are plenty of restaurants around the island and it is great to hire a scooter to explore.

Room Tip: Leave room keys at reception for room servicing.

I just arrived home from the airport and immediatley placed my review!
because I think this is a great place to go to!:

after backpacking 30 days through Malaysia, Singapore and Borneo we had planned 5 days of sunshine and relaxing. we choose to go to pulau pangkor and found this resort.
the location is great. especially if you compair it with some very old, badly maintained and more expensive places in the area.

the main building is around a beautiful swimming pool with a nice garden. a little further in the garden is the 'food and drink-area' where, in the morning, you get your quite large breakfast buffet. the rest of the day you can order a la catre food and drinks. from french fries and club sandwich till indian roti and curries.

in the afternoon you can even sit at the edge of the beach in a cooling breeze, sipping your drink, with view of the small island pangkor laut and seeing the sun go down! opposite the food area in the garden are three chalets with their own private veranda, all facing the sea.

this resort has openend their doors only about a year a go, so everything is brand new and in tiptop shape! and they are doing everything to keep it that way! even the very good affordable standard room at the first floor(which we had) comes with everything you can imagine! a good bed, chairs, table, closet, fan, airco and a flatscreen tv, with all kinds of channels, but also astro movie channel. also very nice, is that every room has its own safe, without some extra charge! the bathroom has everything it needs. shower with warm water, and it was really CLEAN! every day clean towels, normal and big size for at the beach or pool! and every day complimentry bottles of water. the deluxe rooms are on the ground floor and are bigger and have their own private veranda facing the swimming pool.

the service is great! no complaints whatsoever! you want to eat or drink something that isn't on the menu? no problem, the same day or within one day they'll try to get it for you. they really go that extra mile to make you feel 100% at ease and comfortable!
almost everyday we enjoyed a nice bottle of white wine from the general managers own fridge, even if it wasn't on the menu! and it was even good wine to! :D

conclusion: would i return to this resort if I'm in the area? with such a new, clean, goodlooking place, with friendly staff, good food and drinks and extremely good service, and on top of that, a affordable price that almost makes it a steal???
you bet I will! serious: if you go to pulau pangkor, go sandy beach resort!

so to Vijay Suntharam Rajarem, General Manager:
thank you for the nice days, thank you for your wine! thank you for the nice chat accomponied with wine and beer, and try keep this up,you've got a great place!

greetings Marc Huisman.

After travelling round Malaysia for 10 days, and seeing the F1 Grand Prix in Kuala Lumpur, we wanted a beach stay for a few days which wasn't too far from KL. I found out about Pangkor Island by chance, it's not on the main tourist trail and doesn't really appear in any of the guidebooks. It's a 3hr drive from KL (which was appealing to me as I don't really like flying). I chose Sandy Beach as it looked the newest accom option and had some good reviews.
I was not disappointed. After a long 5hr bus journey (the bus stand in KL had moved during refurbishments, adding an extra 2hrs onto our journey), and a boat ride we arrived tired and weary at the resort. It was spotlessly clean and staff were friendly and efficient checking us in.
We were shown our beach chalet which was also very clean and just perfect for what we wanted. A/C, fridge, complimentary water, tea & coffee and a big comfy bed! We couldnt wait to dump our bags down and explore.
The chalet is a stone's throw away from Pasir Bogak beach which has the most stunning sunsets, although the best beach for sunbathing and swimming is Coral Beach (just north of Nipah Beach) which can be reached by taxi costing RM 10 (about £2).
The restaurant attached to the resort was ok, but wasn't very busy other than at breakfast, although we had lunch their on our arrival and it done the job.
The proprietor of the resort is very friendly and chatty, and would always enquire how our stay was and whether we needed anything done. it's a new resort and he is keen for it to be successful, so it's a very personal service, something you wouldn't receive at a larger resort.
We didn't use the swimming pool as we prefer the beaches, but it looked clean and there were always people with kids enjoying it.

We hired scooters for the day and drove round the island, there's only one road that goes right the way round. It was a great drive in the blazing sunshine, although there were a couple of steep bends to maneouver so be careful if you do decide to do this. We arranged the bikes from the resort at RM 50 per day (£10).

Overall we had a great stay at Pangkor Sandy Beach, better than expected. The resort really wants to please it's customers and you wont want for anything while you['re there. Pangkor itself is a lovely little island and I was actually shocked how quiet it was in comparison with the other islands we'd visited. If the Malaysian Government wanted this on the tourist trail it could attract thousands more visitors, although maybe they dont want this island to go the same way as Langkawi.

Room Tip: hire scooters to explore the island
